Yes, you have to hold the trigger down. However, the power seems to last forever because of this. It doesn't run 20 minutes from the time you turn it on. It runs 20 full minutes of you holding the trigger. I could not believe how long this lasted. Now I find any excuse I can to vacuum. I also found that it never kicks debris back at you. With having two kitties and litter every where at all times, I'm used to being pelleted when I vacuum. Not anymore!!! In addition to that, I have a bad back. Previously I had a small cordless vacuum that broke down into a Dirt Devil type handheld so I could hold it over my head or do the stairs. It didn't have the power I needed and it was still awkward. I gave up on the stairs. At least until we got the DC44. I vacuumed two flights of stairs with no problems at all. My back is fine and I'm ready for more. The suction doesn't feel uber powerful on your hand like a Shop Vac tends to but it did major damage on the debris on the floor I can't even see. We have stored our Shop Vac for wet vacuuming only as the DC44 has covered the dry. When the battery is running low, there is a light that flashes when you have one minute left. It doesn't dwindle and die a dramatic theatrical death. It just stops. I haven't found the need to have a second battery as a back up but am open to it. I think I would only need a second battery for the hard core seasonal cleanings. Family reviews of Dyson have always been high and recommended. I knew I would like it, I just had no idea how much I would love it!! What a great product! Already recommending it to friends and figuring out which family member needs it for Christmas. The only thing we are hunting for now is a way to store the additional tools we purchased for pet grooming and the like. It would be great if there was something available to snap them into like the two that came with the DC44. Perhaps there is, we just haven't found it yet. You will not regret this purchase. see less

Just picked up my animal. So far I love it. I have an upright dyson now for 7 years and we love it! it has never lost suction. But I have never liked it for hard surfaces. I have tried numerous cordless vacuums and never have I found one that would last or enough power. My daughter's first floor of home is all hard flooring so she purchased this first and she loves it no complaints. Never looses suction or battery life she told me that she finishes cleaning and doesn't loose power. So I thought it would be the perfect answer to my problems. So far so good. One thing that I ask could you please let customers know if it is best to run the power down before charging or does it not matter. I know that many rechargeable batteries have a memory, so this is important issue. I noticed that out of the box it was charged so I didn't know if I should charge it or run it down first. So that should be addressed in the set up. I love the hang up devise, but you didn't make room for the extra tool that came with the animal. May I suggest making a second tool holder to hang extra parts? see less

By far the best handheld vacuum ever. I had the DC34 before this one and loved it too! Besides the fact you have to hold in the button (not that big of a deal) its perfect. The suction is great and its perfect for my tile and hardwood floors. Our house gets very dusty and collects dust bunny's. I don't even have to move the bar stools its so easy to maneuver! I can say that my DC34 after a year or longer lost it's battery life so I called and they sent me a new one no problem. Then the "motor" went out so I called again and they sent me a new one of those! It still works great I just love the way The DC44 looks and has a little more power! I'm sure they will do the same with this one if something goes wrong. Good job Dyson. I don't know why people hate this so much! All the vacuums I own are Dyson because of the quality and look!! see less

I'm a middle-aged man and I like my tools. This vacuum is awesome! I recently retired to Arizona and with that said...... Get use to dust blowing in from the desert. My house has tile, wood and rugs on the floor. This Dyson Dream Machine is perfect for it!!!!!!! Not to mention it makes a great spider and scorpion sucker-upper. Easy to get out and have it working. I kind of feel like the first Dyson Gun Slinger ever with it. Zap here! Zap there! I'm done. Now it's time for a cold one by the BBQ grill. see less

I have been looking for a small, easy to use "quick broom". I struck paydirt with this little gem. I purchased "The animal" a few years ago, I have 2 pugs and 2 cats, and was not dissapointed. Great vacuum for the money. Fairly good pick up and runs a decent amount of time before battery wears out. Picks up good on tile floors and does a fairly good job on carpets as well for quick pick ups. Definitely worth the money. Considered buying the Dyson stick but wanted to try this first and I am glad I did! Saved hundreds! see less

Recently redid our home flooring in laminate. I've always had carpet, so this was all new to me. I used the swiffer a few times, which works but this Eureka Quick Up is SO much easier, faster & more effective! Very light & easy to handle. Quickly switches to rollers for area rugs! I also used it in my bathrooms, which have tile flooring & worked great there also! I can now clean my entire house with one item, quickly & easily! The battery seemed to last me about 25 minutes which is plenty enough time to clean my entire home! LOVE IT! see less

I Love this vacuum! I bought it mainly to vacuum up bird seed from our pet bird. It is so much easier then sweeping. Plus it works great on my small area rugs. It takes half the time of a broom and is fun. I recommend the cordless. I have only had a month but so far it has been great and battery stays charged long enough to vacuum everything. see less

My girlfriend and I live in a small one bedroom apartment. We were looking for something to clean up the random dust balls, but we didn't need (or want to spend the money on) a vacuum cleaner. This little guy filled the job perfectly. We use it in short spurts to clean the various nooks and crannies in our apartment and to tidy up the couch. Bought this for my vacation home and absolutely love it! Most powerful handheld vac I've ever had and will get one for my regular home too. I keep it plugged in 24-hrs/7 days and it's been that way for more than two years with no problems whatsoever. Suction is fantastic, and stays charged as I run around picking up loose stuff. I received this as a wedding gift a year ago and use it every other day to vacuum an apartment of approximately 480 sq. feet. Tired of crawling, but I love it. The pros are that it is still going strong after a year, pretty enough to leave out in the open, holds a long charge, powerful enough to get all the dog fur from a fluffy dog, can do carpet, rugs, tile, or wood. The cons are with power comes a numb hand if you use it too long, the brush attachment got hair wrapped around the sides which are impossible to clean, so I no longer can use it. see less

This one gave out after a year. The roller attachment won't work anymore and now if I don't leave it on the charger and mind you its been charged for days, it only manages to clean one spot then dies out. I don't understand why its so difficult for any company like this or Dirt Devil to not make a portable cleaner last longer than a year or two. I guess they want them replaced quickly and I normally always buy one. This one is good, only wish it had a longer life even after I have taken such good care of it. see less

I love this handy, lightweight vac for everyday use especially on my tile floors. It lightweight and stays charged very well. The detachable handheld vacuum makes it even more versatile. There are two recommendations I would make however. I would make a longer handle so I don't have to bend over so much. It's pretty short for my 6'2" husband. I would also make the head of the vacuum wider to clean a wider swatch. The head is kind of narrow. All in all I am satisfied with it. see less

Price may be high for a cordless vacuum, but it's really not your regular cheap stick-vac. I have had mine for almost 2 years now and am still very happy I bought it, in fact, I dumped my regular vacuum altogether since the Hoover LiNX is all I use for my floors. Suction is good, charge holds very well, it does not weaken until drained entirely, and I like that the battery pack is removable and it does not have to stay plugged in after it is fully charged, you just pop the battery back into the vacuum and it will be ready to go whenever you need it. The dirt container is easy to empty, just hold it over a trash bin and push the button to drop the door, very convenient. Overall a great appliance in a sleek modern design, well worth the price. see less

I purchased this unit because I have cats and a small apartment, and needed something easy to use, light, no cords, something to use daily to pick up the cat hair and scattered litter crumbs, for which i haven't had any issues. I would say that the charge goes strong for about 15 solid minutes. I would not recommend this by any means for carpet use, only hard surfaces. It has been perfect for daily use and that's all I need. The unit is well made, doesn't feel cheap at all, and looks great in the apartment, not taking away from any decor. I would say that the unit is a bit overpriced, feeling it should retail at 80 dollars and it's lower model 60 dollars. In the end, it's a keeper for me. see less

Does anyone really like to vacuum? I am very impressed by the power and precision contained in this small piece. Just easily program it and let it run. The suction is more than adequate to pick up everything on my floor. It is extremely methodical in how the laser visualizes the room and vacuums the floor in straight parallel lines. Awesome product! I like that it's wall mounted and light weight. Not all models are wall mounted. The canister is easy to empty and the filter is long lasting. This Dustbuster is absolutely PINK and not purple. But, it works great. It remains charged for a long time as I don't use it too often but don't keep it plugged in all the time yet it is always ready to go. You do have to hold it at a certain angle for it to pick up best, so if it doesn't seem to be picking up well, increase your angle to the floor. I will say I wish it came with, or had the option to purchase a crevice attachment of some sort so I could use it more effectively in my car, my couch or corners in general. Other than that it's a great, durable product, especially for the price. see less

In my experience, the battery life for all Dustbusters is relatively short-lived. I usually buy two at a time- to compensate for the quick dying battery because after about a year, they do die after only a few minutes of cleaning. I am super happy with this one! It is much lighter, quieter, and not as messy to empty. I was hesitant due to the other review complaints about it not having a "dock" for charging. I actually ike the plug in much better than the dock. I don't hang my Dustbuster on the wall, so it is convenient. As for the noise... it's 14.4v! NOISE EQUALS MORE POWER. If you don't like the noise, go lower on the volts... but don't expect suction. It has been over 5 years since I purchased my old 14.4v Dustbusters and this one is a million times better. I will be buying a second. see less

It is powerful, picks up everything, easy to clean,and has a larger capacity to hold dirt, Even just having the wire to recharge it makes it more convenient compared to the ones that have the additional stands you have to use. The charge lasts a long time, and I have very large rooms. I haven't once run low or out of power. I highly recommend this stick vacuum, or any other other item Bissell makes for pets. I have their Little Green Machine for pets, and it is the best on cleaning carpeting. see less

I love this product. I have mainly hard flooring and a long haired kitty. It works wonders. The only down side I have with the product itself is that the battery life could be a little longer or make it where it can run off of a cord as well as cordless. You do have to keep the filter really clean but that isn't a problem for me as I clean it every time I use it. I love the swivel and the button that drops the handle to get under neath things. I like the lightness of it also. I have a regular Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Vac as well and it works great on carpet but not hard flooring and it is very heavy. see less

I just bought this vacuum a week ago but so far it is the best vacuum I have ever purchased. I really hope how the box reads it "never looses cleaning power" is true because my previous vacuums lost suction after a few uses. I have a dog that sheds like crazy and I was in the market for a good pet hair vacuum and I think I found it. I love how it is cordless, it makes cleaning so much easier and much faster. The swivel head makes getting into corners easier too. The price was listed at [$] but I found one that was repackaged for [$], of course at that price I had to buy it. This vacuum is perfect if you're vacuuming 4-5 days per week due to pet hair and don't want to pull out your big vacuum all the time. We have a long haired and medium length haired cats in our house and we tend to find little hair clumps in corners, on the stairs, everywhere really. It has great battery life and great suction! Some users said it didn't perform well on rugs, but I've found that it works well enough to get pet hair and crumbs off all length rugs. My only complaint would be that the stick vacuum doesn't have as much power as the handheld vac, but I assume this is because the handheld powers the larger vacuum. However, it's a minor difference. i have bought many handheld and stick vacs in the past but this one sure made an impression. it is not meant to replace your large vacuum, but can handle a lot. i've used it for pet hair, in bathrooms, bedrooms and my very large loft living room. it last about 20 to 30 minutes fully charged and a friend of mine told me that the batteries on such appliances last longer if you fully use up the battery before recharging it. not sure if it's true but i've been doing it with no problems. love how you can use it both as a handheld and a stick vac. beautiful color too!! when the unit is charging, it gives off a nice blue light that serves as a night light so you won't stub your toes when walking in the dark. extra perk insert smiley face see less

This is a great vacum woith adequate suction. If you have deep pile carpet, this is not your choice. It is really meant for hardwoods or Oriental carpets with no pile. I esp. like the attachments which are stored in the unit and the handheld is a great addition! see less
