My daughter was ecstatic to receive this for Christmas. Target had the best price of everywhere I looked. The set had easy to follow instructions for my almost six-year-old, although some parts required some adult help to create. Her almost eight-year-old sister did a lot of helping. The only downside to the initial set up was that she lost interest as it did take some time to put together. Once it was fully assembled, the girls played with it constantly! We purchased this for our daughter that just turned 6 and she LOVES it. She was so excited about it that we completed the entire house in one sitting together. At first, we planned to do one room at a time each day, but she didn't want to stop. I helped with the stickers, my 7 year old organized the legos for each page and then my 6 year old put everything together. Some of the items are very small and need a few tries to get them to stay in place, but overall a great investment. Only downside I can say is, I wish the entire set was a bit larger so she could really play with it like a dollhouse. The size that it is only allows her to carefully play with it, or else she ends up knocking over other items or having some things break apart. see less

My daughter received this as a gift for her 8th birthday! She loves it!! She started working on it right away. She has been able to put it together herself. I like that it included several characters . Lots of great details!! I can tell she is excited about this. She is as excited about this house as when she received her barbie dream house!! see less

Excellent set, modular construction of the walls makes it easy to build with the kids over several nights, and easier to store without taking the whole thing apart. While Helm's Deep is not a required purchase for those trying to collect the whole fellowship, it does have some cool figs not available in other sets. This was a great parent and child project, child is 6, older kids would have no problems assembling on their own. A homerun set from Lego, and my favorite of the LOTR collection. see less

i bought this for my nephew few months ago he is 7 we put it together that night it was alot of fun to build and then play with it after he has built it many times since and likes to mix some of his other sets with it if you got the money and want a gift that keeps on giving i would highly recommend this! see less

This is a nice small set, with a great amount of minifigs for the price point. Taken alone, for kids there is some replay value, but the fortress wall takes very little time to put together, and the minifigs are the main draw. Combined with the Helms Deep set, this is an awesome addition, it makes helms deep even larger, and adds more heroes to man the otherwise lonely looking walls, as well as making the bad guys look more imposing. Probably not the first smallish LOTR or Hobbit set I would get, but great for adding to a collection. see less

This is a really cute set, but it is definitely for an older child with advanced fine motor skills. The directions are pretty good. I guess if one is familiar with the Lego product, she will find this easy to put together. The moving parts lend themselves to imaginative play. I'm keeping this for my granddaughter's fifth birthday. see less

My 7-year-old daughter and I were both excited when the Friends line came out, especially this tree house. Watching her follow the diagram and assemble it herself was well worth the price. Even her older brother was impressed with the "secret compartment." We are having fun composing different scenes and taking pictures of them, and I'm sure this will only get better as we add to the collection. see less

My 7 year old saw these and wanted to try them. She liked seeing how other Lego sets were put together but then lost interest. This set has held her interest and I thought the treehouse left a lot of room for imaginative play. I really don't understand the drama about the Lego Friends line...at first I was skeptical too...what, girls can't play with regular Legos?...but once I saw how much my daughter enjoyed them I got over it. They're Legos marketed to girls, not the only Legos for girls. see less

This is a great addition to my ever growing lego family. I am a builder maniac, always constructing new buildings and creations, so this is perfect. It comes with a little "inspiration" booklet to help you get started, then it's up to your imagination. When buying this set keep in mind that 400 bricks isn't that much, you may be dissapointed when you open the box and find a small bag. Comes with a cute lego man, awesome surprise!, which adds to the fun. The colors are very bright and colorful, green, blue, black, red, yellow. Overall though this is a splendid attition to my lego collection and I've had hours of fun with this!! see less

The Ultimate Building Set is a wonderful addition to her collection as it contains the basic pieces she needs and in a good quantity. I'm not sure if I bought these for my 4 year old son or for myself, but we both had a blast playing with them! This kit has a small assortment of most of the basics. The downside is that I quickly came up with a laundry list of additional pieces I (err...my son) would need to really get serious about building stuff. see less
