These filter's work great! We have two humidifiers, one that can accept the filter and one that can't. We have no problems with dust at all with the Crane product. Our Vicks humidifier practically throws white dust all over our living room. Gonna have to upgrade to a second Crane. see less

The box did indicate that there is a coating inside the filter that will discolor the water in the tank the first couple of uses. I haven't noticed any strange chemical odors and am very sensitive to smells, being 9 months pregnant. I would reccomend the filter. see less

The humidifier can work without the filter however, if you have hardwater in your area I would highly recommend this. Not sure what happened to the reviewer that had the "brown" water but it sounds as if the filter may have had a hole. Our water is neither brown nor has suds. Very easy to install and cheaper than other filters that we have used in previous humidifiers (including a Brita filter). Tough economy, yes, but well worth the extra $ since it will last 2 months plus I wasn't aware there is a price tag on the health of a child. see less

I finally found a humidifier that lasts and stands up to daily use. I have spent many years wasting money on a lot of humidifiers. This one does not clog like the ones with the filter do. It's a cool mist which I love. I put one on my baby registry and also purchased one for my room. It has been running steady for the last 3 months. I love it!! see less

This humidifier is amazing! Don't be fooled by the look on the box it works well for anyone! I have extremely dry skin in the winter time... my radiator makes the air in my apartment very dry, and I am always scratching my itchy, dry skin and wake up numerous times in the middle of the night... scratching and itching. I have tried every cream on the market & even a prescription from my dermatologist, but nothing helped... my doctor recommended i get a humidifier so i did my research...consumer reports suggested this one and bought it... well, i filled it up and plugged it in, & the first night it was on was the first night i slept soundly in 3 months... i woke up in the morning so refreshed and not itchy at all! I keep this running 24/7, & it works so well, my room feels like a greenhouse! I haven't scratched or itched once since I got it... If you are having any dry skin problems, save your money... don't buy any lotions, & but this humidifier! And at this price, you can't beat it!!! see less

I would highly recommend this product! I have purchased this for my daughter two years ago and has held up so far for my son,he is 5 months old. The starry light is used for a soft nightlight, it is quiet and the option for inserts has helped with many congested colds in our household. I have noticed that it leaks but only when you carry it and it tilts sideways. The filters can be found fairly cheap at your local [retailer]. Like every other humifier you do need to change the filter every few months but ilthe inside unit is easily removable for cleaning. Overall this does everything I want to help my childrens air fresh and soothing, I hope this review helps ! see less

They work great and offer muted lighting for those middle-of-the-night feedings-wakings. I would definitely recommend. Filters hard to find in store, but are available online. Several non-brand filters also work great for this humidifier, just choose the right style. see less

I received this from my baby registry, and though I'm not due until January 2013, I decided to test it out in our bedroom. I'm suffering a sinus infection and set it up. This is SO quiet I don't even know it is on, and I can visibly see the mist coming from the top. I can already tell the difference in the room. What a help!! I had another humidifier we used and put away in another room because it was so noisy we couldn't sleep with it. So far I LOVE this humidifier and would absolutely recommend it. We replaced our older Graco humidifier with this one for our little one's persistent congestion. We had always been fine with the old one, but in hindisght, we should have bought this long ago! This product is super quiet - so quiet that I can't tell if it's even on just by listening for it. It puts out a nice amount of "steam" while on the higher settings, and I can feel a difference in the actual humidity of the room, whereas with our previous humidifier, I could not. The color and shape blend in nicely, and it is easy to clean. I highly recommend looking for sales on this product. They've been featured on the Target deal a day two times in the last two months. Bought this over a year ago. I noticed water on the ground and a white film on my dresser and pictures because I had the setting too high. I now keep it at low, medium setting and I've not had anymore problems. Very easy to fill and clean. There is a slight working noise or hum to it but it's hardly noticeable. The power light is a lot brighter than you would think. The 2 opening where the mist comes out moves 360 degrees, so it's nice you can have the mist pointing 2 different directions. The color is like a salmon pink, not ugly at all. Going to buy one for my soon-to-be niece or nephew! see less

I just purchased this humidifier to go in my boys' room. It was easy to put together, east to fill, and then just turn it on and "Elliot" shoots the moisture right out of his trunk. It is virtually silent, I can't even hear it over our monitor, which can pick up the dog's footsteps when he's upstairs. We have a different brand running in our main living area and that thing is extremely loud, but this one is perfect. Upon request, this one is being given to the girls and I have ordered the Dragon for the boys. I can't wait to see it blow "smoke" from his nostrils. We bought this humidifier to help our baby sleep through the night when she had a stuffy nose. The humidifier has been working great so far. It is very quiet which allows her to sleep while it is on. The great thing about it is the fact that you can regulate how much humidity you want it to release, the water tank doesn't need to be refilled that often and red light will go on when it needs more water. I was bought this as a baby shower gift 5 years ago...it has a dial to decide how much out put you want which is great! We use it because we have hot air heat and in the winter you cant touch ANYTHING without getting a shock...i mean you see the blue/white shock currents run between your hand and the light switch or your hand and the baby....and we also use it because they say if your house is real moist the flu virus cant survive long. It works to eliminate getting a shock every time you get near anything. Like every other one on the market depending how high you have it set depends how often you have to fill it, on the highest settings i fill it about twice in a 24hr period but keep in mind i refill it after its got about 2-3 inches of water left, i dont let it get dry. If these didnt cost so much money, id buy 4 more and make sure EVERY room had one but i just cant put out that much even if it does last 5 years and does a great job! see less

I bought this humidifier because I thought it was so cute. That was 5 years ago and it still works great. It is very easy to fill and is very quiet. The only drawback I would have is that it makes my son's bedding very damp if I put it too near his bed. The mist blows straight out in the same direction all night and so makes a lot of damp areas. Otherwise its an adorable, easy to use humidifier. And it works! For the money its a great buy. see less

This may seem backwards, but i actually was looking for a humidifier with a hum to it. This does have a hum to it and acts as white noise for my son. We have a really small house, so the hum helps block out noises that we may be making during his naps and at night. I wont buy a humidifier that claims it makes zero noise. But thats just me, and how my son sleeps the best see less

I have yet to have a problem with this product. I have had this humidifier for 6 years and I have not experienced any leaking or mold issues. I use the KAZ water additives that are sold next to the product to avoid any mold or mildew issues. With any humidifier, an additive should be used to avoid mold and mineral deposits. I think this product is great and has lasted me quite a while. see less

I bought this product for its look and price. My daughter (4) had been having a cough for a while and was recommended a humidifier. Since then, there is very little coughing at night and its only been about 2 weeks. I leave it on low and love that the white noise keeps her asleep. I fill it up every 2-3 days. Yes, the high setting is a bit loud, so not recommended for those with "sensitive ears." I will be purchasing another one for our newbon. see less

We have had this humidifier for a month and are very happy with it. It is easy to fill - the basin fits in our sink unlike our old humidifier that had to be filled in the bathtub. Ok it might be to early to write a review since I just purchased the item today. But after a sleepless night where my daughter couldn't breath through her stuffed and runny nose, I am to excited that she is sound a sleep going on 3 and half hours! She was uncomfortable all night last night and all day today. Her nose kept running and it made breathing impossible. So I went to my local Target and saw this on sale for [$]. I checked the review thru my iPhone and noticed all said it was a good buy. Got home and immediately placed one of the cartridges inside it and plugged it in. I rocked my daughter to sleep and placed her into the room and she's been asleep ever since. This is the reason I have time to write this review! LOL I even got in a 90 min nap myself see less

I registered for this product on my baby registry & received it as a gift 3 years ago. It is a wonderful product & we continue to use it frequently. We have not had any problems with the unit & it is great that it is so portable. Have taken it with us on vacation & to grandparents house...unit doubles as a soft night light which is a nice addition. This is an excellent option for those of us who like to use Vicks Vaporub but don't like to actually rub it on our bodies, or for children with sensitive skin. My son always requests that I get this vaporizer out for him when he has a stuffy head. A must buy. see less

I got this item because of the reviews Ive seen here and other places and eventually decided to try it for myself and Im sooo glad I did. I have a 3 year old taht is prone to an acute cough when shes sick and nothing was helping. I bought this product and whip it out when shes sick and literally overnight theres improvement in her cough.
