This is a great addition to my ever growing lego family. I am a builder maniac, always constructing new buildings and creations, so this is perfect. It comes with a little "inspiration" booklet to help you get started, then it's up to your imagination. When buying this set keep in mind that 400 bricks isn't that much, you may be dissapointed when you open the box and find a small bag. Comes with a cute lego man, awesome surprise!, which adds to the fun. The colors are very bright and colorful, green, blue, black, red, yellow. Overall though this is a splendid attition to my lego collection and I've had hours of fun with this!! see less

My daughter is a Lego maniac and buys sets as often as her allowance will let her. She builds the sets, then uses the pieces to build her own creations. The Ultimate Building Set is a wonderful addition to her collection as it contains the basic pieces she needs and in a good quantity. We pick up this set or a variation of it every couple of years to keep up with her Lego designing needs! see less

I'm not sure if I bought these for my 4 year old son or for myself, but we both had a blast playing with them! This kit has a small assortment of most of the basics. The downside is that I quickly came up with a laundry list of additional pieces I (err...my son) would need to really get serious about building stuff. see less

So, to keep him interested in learning, I have to be very creative and find activities and toys that are not only fun and entertaining, but also provoke thought and a desire to explore. Since he lives so far away, I do not get to see him often enough to get a "feel" for what he wants and needs. Therefore, I turned to TARGET! While browsing, I ran across the LEGO Architecture series and locked on to the Empire State Building Set. I knew he would love it as he had been talking about it with his mother. Breathless, I clicked on it hoping it was in stock; EUREKA! It was there! I quickly ordered it, had it shipped to him for his birthday, and became the World's Best Grandma" all in just about 30 seconds! It arrived on his birthday in ship-shape. He promptly opened it, removed the Legos, then built the Empire State Building. What a kid! He didn't even use the directions the first time; I told you he was smart. I am certain he is wrecking it and rebuilding it over and over into different buildings or objects. I don't think I could have gotten him anything he would have loved more or used more to express his creativity and genius. It is amazing that for less than $25, hours of serious learning can take place. I believe it is true, though I do not know who said it, that "play is a child's work." I purchased this item for my 5 yr. old and he really enjoys it. I had to help him build the items shown in the instructions, which were very easy for an adult to follow, but he can use his imagination to build his own ideas as well. The only issue I have is that the structures that we build come apart so easily but I guess that's what legos do. see less
