The Grandchildren were surprised at how quickly they filled their jars over the months. They quickly learned to ask to do chores for a reward to put in their jars. They looked forward to the day they emptied their jar on the floor, paper wrap their coins and open a savings account at the bank. We made a big deal of going into the bank and having them sit and open their accounts. They are on their third round of filling the jar. The jar is still operating and calculating each coin added to jar. They also enjoy receiving mail from the bank in their name. The next step is to buy a stock with the money and learning another lesson in money management. They are already discussing their favorite companies from a list of dividen based stocks. They are recognizing companies from toys purchased, computer and software companies, candy, fast food and so forth. Invaluable lessons which involve the parent with the child.
