We received this playpen as a gift following the birth of our 2nd son. I have used other play yards in the past as a former daycare provider, and found most playpens in this price range to have a short life span. This one has surpassed my expectations!
SET-UP: My husband and I found the initial setup to be fairly intuitive and the instructions were user-friendly. The pop-up side rails are sturdier, but easier to click into place than other models.
FEATURES: Upon completion, we noticed this playpen is a bit larger than the one we were previously using, allowing for more play space. It has a sturdier base than other models we have tried, and appears to have more legs, thus giving us the impression that it is much sturdier. The legs have yet to leave any scratches on our wooden floors, and have better feet on them than the previous models. The padded floor of the playpen secures nicely to the unit.
One of our favorite features is the flip-up changing area, which is sturdy enough even for our 10-month-old. It can be flipped back down outside the playpen, taking up very little room, but also shades one side of the playpen, which is particularly nice in our wildly sunny living room. One of the other accessories we have enjoyed is the removable diaper stacker. It holds a ton of diapers, yet takes up very little space on the exterior of the playpen.
PORTABILITY: As far as packing this playpen up or travel, it is a tad heavier than some playpens, but meets expectations otherwise. It has smooth wheels, which makes maneuvering it from room to room a breeze.
CONS: We have had a few minor complaints about the playpen. The first issue is that while the mobile that came with the playpen is bright and attractive, unfortunately it is only semi-useful until a child can stand. The mobile is heavier than the clip that is meant to hold it into place, so after a short while it starts to tip over on its own. My now-ten-month-old can easily pop the mobile off and toss it aside. The same is true of the sound and light accessory, but it does have a clear tone and a nice variety of songs and sounds for the younger infant that is not quite mobile yet. Also, my son is now able to reach over the playpen wall and pull all of the diapers out of the diaper stacker, so we do not really use this feature anymore.
Another issue worth mentioning involves the changing tray. When my son was not in the playpen but wandering around the living room instead, we had the changing tray flipped down on the exterior of the playpen. He managed to wedge his torso between the hinged changing tray and the side of the playpen, effectively trapping himself. He was fine, as I was only a few feet away and was able to free him, but I will definitely make sure from now on to flip the changing tray back up when the playpen is not in use.
OVERALL: I would rate this above any other portable crib we have used. I wish we were able to use the accessories a little longer, but other models do not come as highly-equipped anyway. I would recommend this if you want a sharp-looking, sturdy playpen that offers high-end features at a reasonable price.
I really like this pack-n-play! We had an Eddie Bauer model with our first child and it held up pretty well but we received this one as a gift, so now we're using it instead.
The whole system is super easy to assemble and the instructions are easy to follow. I like the extra strip of fabric along the top rails as my daughter likes to chew on the sides. The mesh is totally breathable.
Funny enough my favorite part is the diaper and wipes container on the side. It's so convenient and it's sturdy enough to hold a pack of wipes and a whole stack of diapers. Plus, this part is removable if you don't like it.
The mattress is firm enough that I wasn't worried at all about my newborn sleeping on her back in this at night. As a pediatrician, I'm all about safety.
I like the changing station and it worked well when my daughter was first born but now that she's so big we keep it folded up out of the way.
The soft blocks hanging from the mobile are cute but the mobile is a little flimsy and now that my daughter is more mobile she can pull on these and I'm afraid she'll snap it so we removed this part.
The whole thing, when packaged up in the carrying bag isn't as heavy as the other pack-n-play we have. It only weighs about 25 lbs and fits in the trunk of my small car.
This play yard is critical to my daily routine with my 10 month old! It is sturdy, big enough for her to crawl around in/stand up in and is a very neutral pattern. I also really like the diaper changing station that swings up onto the top of the play yard - puts your baby at waist height and keeps you from having to lean over. And the backing of the diaper changer is very solid so my daughter is sliding or leaning all over the place.
The only issue I had was with the mobile. It would clamp into place for a while but then would start to lean and, of course, my daughter would reach up and yank it down. We've had to remove it - which isn't a big deal for a 10-month old, but might be a little more important for a younger baby that is on their back and would like visual stimulation.
Overall, I'd definitely recommend!
We are first-time parents, so easy assembly is a must with our purchases. This was pretty easy to assemble and fits nicely next to the bed. The colors are nice, the pink is like a dusty pink and the little shade can switch sides of the play pen, which is a nice feature. I plan to use the bassinet and changing table first. Overall, very pleased with this item!
I was given this as a gift at my baby shower and I am very pleased with it so far. I assembled it myself while 7 1/2 months pregnant with no major problems. It seems pretty sturdy and I love the gender neutral colors. I think that if it is well taken care of it will last a long time. I am going to try to use it as a bassinet for the first couple of months in our bedroom and in the living room. I will just have to wait to see if our baby girl likes it too!
