I have had these knives for 2 years and they still look new. These are the best knives I have ever owned. I take very good care of them. I oil the block and hand wash and hand dry all the knives before I put them in the block. I would really like to know if the people who had block problems oiled the block and put the knives away dry. I've read all the reviews and decided I needed to add some positive reinforcement for this set of fantastic knives. I purchased these after lots of shopping around for price,quality, and availability. I have been overjoyed with their performance on all tasks from slicing a tomato to cutting hard crusted garlic bread! I like the sturdy craftsmanship, they look expensive,and the quality is superb. I utilize these puppies on a daily basis and I've never been disappointed. I can't, however, speak to the rust issue because I hand wash and dry my knives as a regular practice as I've been told its better and keeps them sharper. I'm off to chop some carrots! I have several other expensive knives and as far as cutting these seem to be the best! They are sharp and smooth. The only downfall is that they rust easily if you put them in the dishwasher or lay them out to dry. You HAVE to wash and dry them immediately. I made the mistake of doing both. They are a little bit rusted and don't look as pretty as my other knives but I use them everyday over them. see less

I love these knifes, I have had them for about 5 months now and they are still very sharp and I have not had any rust problems like, but my dishwasher does do a really good drying cycle. I have not had to sharpen them at all so far and I use some everyday. They come clean very easy. I really like the handle feel on the bigger knifes very comfortable to hold. The steak knifes are serrated and the big knifes are smooth blade except the utility knife is still serrated. It seems like most complaints are with rusting, but we followed the directions and hand wash our knives making sure they don't sit and rust. We don't run them in the dishwasher. I'm very surprised by how many negative reviews this knife set has received. I've had this set for over a year and have yet to be dissatisfied. I do quite a bit of cooking for my family and use these knives nightly. No, they are not dishwasher safe, but even the highest quality knives recommend hand washing to extend the life of the knife. I let them air dry after hand washing and have not seen any rusting. For the quality and look, the price cannot be beat. These look perfect with our stainless steel appliances. see less

Ok, for those of you who can read, this will be a great knife set for you. The directions SPECIFICALLY say, HAND WASH ONLY. So of COURSE they messed up when you put them in the dishwasher. I purchased my set over a year ago and NONE of my knives have any rust, the block is in perfect condition, and none of the knives have dulled at all and these are used on a daily basis. I hand wash (keyword "hand wash") these as soon as I am finished using them, dry them completely before placing back in the block and have had no problems at all. Some of the other reviewers probably left them sitting in the sink for a while before washing them which will 1. dull the knives and 2. cause them to rust. If you actually take care of your stuff you won't have a problem. see less

I received these knives as a wedding gift a couple months ago, and they are fabulous. The candy apple red is bright and pretty, and adds a nice pop of color to my kitchen. The scissors are also really nice for cutting meats and pesky packaging. They are nice a sharp, and great for chopping vegetables. My only problem is that even after hand washing them and carefully drying them after use, the red paint is beginning to chip off of some of the handles and the metal underneath is showing through. Other than that, I really like them. see less

I just bought this set of knives, and unpacked them. I must say, these feel really nice in the hand with great fit and balance. I love the way they are one piece and look like solid steel even though they aren't. The handles seem to be just the right size and shape or my hands. The variety in this set pretty much covers anything you might need to do with a knife in the kitchen. I'm not sure about the durability yet, or sharpness out of the box. I do consider myself a pretty good knife sharpener, so I'll be straightening the edges out myself and touching them up whenever it's needed. Over all I am impressed with the knives, but there are a few minor irregularities in finish, shape, and straightness if you look close - that's why I only gave them 4 stars for quality. The solid bamboo blocks are........VERY HEAVY. They won't be moving around much on my counter. If they were sold by the pound, the blocks alone would be worth the purchase price. see less

These are very good knives. The reason for only four stars is because I thought that the term "fine edge" meant that the edge was smooth, which is what I wanted, but these edges are slightly serrated. However, they are sharp and cut well. see less

I purchased a set of Oneida kitchen knives but read up on the basic care for all stainless steel. Stainless is not stain proof and depending on any combination of factors can become pitted or stained. The most consistent advice for keeping cutlery from degrading is to HAND WASH in mild detergent and dry immediately after use. A simple online search will lead to lists of destructive agents (for example, kitchen salt) in which cutlery should not be allowed to sit for extended periods of time. Dishwashers and dishwasher cleaning agents can be very destructive. I have other "expensive" knives and always clean them immediately to avoid damage. I love my new knives and plan to enjoy them along with my professional knives for a long time! see less

These knives are nice & sharp and are comfortable to hold in your hand. I love the sleek design. I have had them for 2.5 years and they are still in very good condition. I do not have a dishwasher so I can't speak to their durability on that front, but I have soaked them in water overnight and have had no problems. see less

When I started using these knives, I was very disappointed to find that they are very dull and don't sharpen very well. One of the knives had the tip broken off when I took them out of the box. After mangling several onions and peppers, I decided to get a better set of knives for chopping vegetables.
