I just got this mug last week but let me tell you, this mug holds heat for at least 4 hours, I tested it the other day. I made tea at 1230 and didn't drink it till 430 and it was still HOT, I also filled it at 5 and didn't drink it till 730ish and it was still steaming. I would recommend this to anyone who likes hot tea or coffee. I haven't tested it yet with cold but I'm sure if it keeps heat like it does, it must keep the cold cold as well. see less

This is by far better than all of the travel mugs I have used. I have been buying a variety of stainless steel mugs, as i am kind of a fan of these for travel and work. I get thirsty and i'm not into warm water. I bought the 16 oz. mug and used it for about 2 years. Loved it so much I bought the 20 oz. so I could carry more water. I don't know if it's different if you carry coffee in it, but i have had absolutely no problems with this product. No leaking. No problems with the drinking hole. I fill it halfway with ice and then water. I take it everywhere I go. I fill it at night and put it on my nightstand and have cold water in the morning to take my synthroid. If I am going on a longer journey somewhere, I take a bottled water so that I can refill my mug if I run out of water. when I remember, I put the top in the dishwasher as per the instructions and handwash the bottom. I absolutely recommend any of the Contigo products. see less

When I first bought it I liked the structure of it but most of all, my drink stayed cold for hours even with no ICE. Best mug I have ever bought. I would recommend this to anyone. I read the reviews and bought this because of the no-spill and no-leak features. But I also must add that this product is super-sturdy. I mistakenly left the tumbler on the top of my car filled with hot coffee and drove off. I heard it hit the ground and expected to find it crushed or dented. Nothing, no dents, just a couple of tiny scratches. And the coffee did not spill one drop. I suggest you get the stainless steel model - unpainted - so you can put both the top and bottom of the tumbler in the dishwasher. If you get a colored one, you will have to wash the bottom part by hand. see less

I love this mug! The spill-proof lid is true to it's name. I can shake it upside-down and have no fear of it leaking. The vacuum insulation prevents the bottle from "sweating" and keeps drinks hot/cold for long periods of time. I've heard that cleaning is a pain for some, but the body wipes out easily, if you have a small hand that is, and the lid is dishwasher safe. The push button makes for the fastest open/close of any bottle I've ever had, and it is actually quite fun from which to drink. I have spent well over $200 on several different travel mugs. I read the tag on this one and thought I'd give it a try. I wanted to test it first with boiling hot water so that way I could take it back if it didn't keep it hot. I checked the mug after an hour and saw steam when I poured a little out so I closed it up and checked it 4 hours later. Not thinking the water would still be as hot, I poured a little out over my finger. It was burning hot! Viola! We had a new mug. I closed the top again and left it overnight. After 14 hours, the water was still warm - not hot, but warm. I couldn't believe it. We now own 3 of these and after my Dad used it while visiting, he even bought one. I am going to get 3 more. Best mug I've found for keeping coffee hot and well worth the money. It's everything it says it is: leakproof, dishwasher safe, stainless inside and no guessing if the top is opened or closed because it says "Open", "Closed" .Only wishing it came in more colors. see less

This travel mug is beyond a doubt the best one you'll find anywhere. For [$] it better be good...and honestly it is. I just purchased the "gun metal" color version of this after two workers swearing by it as the best thing since sliced bread. It will keep your coffee hot for hours, not warm, but nice and hot. As I write this it's been about 3 hours since I filled it this morning before work, and yes it's the coffee is still hot. Don't worry about spills either, once you put hot liquid in this mug and screw the lid on, it's not coming off until the coffee is gone. I was on my way from Texas to Iowa for Christmas and forgot my mug was on the bed of the truck when I left the gas station. As I pulled out I heard something drop and there it was. It still keeps my coffee hot for hours and I can throw it in my purse and not worry that it will spill. I use it every day :) I've had it for about 2 weeks now with no problems- it seems to be very durable. The reason for the 1 star loss is that it dirties pretty easily. This mug really is splendiferous. I tried another mug from Target the 'Senja Desktop Mug' (http://www.target.com/Senja-Desktop-Mug -Stainless-Steel/dp/B00149QDQ6/ref=sc_qi _detailbutton) and its performance pales in comparison to the Contigo Extreme. The Senja kept it warm for a bit, but not like the Contigo.In most normal coffee mugs, that are not vacuum sealed double walled, you have nice hand warmers in addition to a coffee mug. However, this mug fails at warming your hands. In fact, there is no heat transmitted to the outside on the walls, atleast as far as your hand sensors can tell. The only thats lost is through the sip hole, but even that can be closed to keep your drink hot for a long time. The ONLY downfall that I have noticed after about a month and a half is that the flip top, what you use to open or close the sip hole, seems kind of flimsy. I dont use it much, but it seems that it is already starting to wear a bit. However, even if this part broke off, the cup would be completely usable still. The lid seems to be holding well. One piece of advice: Dont try to HULK the lid on tight. Just seal it to the point of tightness and I am guessing that you wont destroy any seals, like other people seem to have noticed. Maybe Im just not as strong as them...oh well.Enjoy your Contigo, this is the best mug Ive ever owned see less

I have owned this coffee mug for two months and use it daily. It really is spill-proof! I was skeptical about that claim and am constantly trying to make it spill over the sink, but it never does. I put just-brewed coffee in there and two and a half hours later it's at the perfect temperature (just underneath the point where it would burn my tongue). When I want to drink it earlier, I just leave the top open and it cools down in a few minutes. Also I find the carribeaner clip to be very handy- I have attached it to my purse, backpack, jean loop, etc and it never falls off or spills. After two months of continuous use including a voyage down a flight of cement stairs, it looks almost brand new. Very durable.The only con about it is that it absorbs the coffee smell/taste but I think all coffee mugs have that and I've found it can be easily remedied with some baking soda overnight. Although I was hesitant at buying the relatively expensive product at first, this mug is definitely worth the twenty bucks. I am thinking about buying a second one. see less

I think I kind of worship this coffee mug, the BEST one I have ever had. I have spent way too much money on other mugs until now, I will never buy a different one. I make my coffee at 7am and it is now 11am and my coffee is still HOT, not luke warm, not warm enough its HOT! It holds enough coffee that you dont have to keep refilling. Been using this mug for a couple of months now and it's the best out there. Haven't seen any problems with paint and in gray/silver any loss of it shouldn't show much. I researched for a week before buying this one. Spill-proof- great to not have to carry a mug in my hand all of the time, as I can just throw it my work bag. Mechanism- easy to use and quiet -unlike those with push buttons-, lid is deep enough too that my nose doesn't hit it. Insulation- I've had hot, not warm, coffee in it after 6 hours! Don't know about cold since I only use it with hot coffee. Size- 16oz is the sweet spot for me. The Oxo is 14.5 which is too small and my coffee maker only works in 2c increments. Hold- easy to hold and smooth with contoured edges and widening shape. Channel 1/3 down is also handy. Drinking- nice to drink from stainless instead of plastic. Cleaning- most days I just rinse with lid open. Use a soapy brush a few times a week and have only disassembled to clean a couple of times. see less

This thing is practically spillproof and keeps my coffee warm for hours and hot for a few hours. I have never had it spill unless it was open. When it's closed it's sealed. The smoke finish prevents it from getting all scratched up like ones that have a painted finish. I've owned probably a dozen coffee tumblers in my life but nothing compares to this one. Once you get it you'll understand. I gave the midnight blue version to my girlfriend but hers is all scratched up now and gets fingerprints on it... still works brilliantly but I'd recommend getting the smoke one. see less

1st lid broke within a couple months, as others report. Contigo said Target will honor their 5 year warranty, and they did. I liked the mug so much and thought it a fluke, I bought a second one. After about 3 months of alternating them daily, BOTH now have bum lids.I'm taking them both back for 2 more, but this time am likely ripping the white spring-loaded handle off of both of them, and just using the flap manually. The one I have that didn't break on the plastic hinge works much better without that piece.So, those of you with broken lids take them back to Target and get another one!And Contigo, fix the lid! I was really excited to find this mug. I loved the clip on handle and the flip-up top design, or so I thought until I had the same problem as Gene with it. My girlfriend and I both bought mugs around the same time. I used mine a lot more than she used hers and within about a month of regular use, the white plastic on the flip-up had cracked and then broken completely, rendering the seal useless. Since my girlfriend rarely used her mug, I borrowed her top, hoping that the problem with mine was an isolated defect, but within about a month of using hers, the flip up top had started to crack again. The rest of the mug appears to be solid, and the flip-up top design is great in theory, but it's really frustrating that they used such poor materials to execute it. When you pay almost [$] for a mug, you expect it to perform a little better than something that gets handed out for free at a trade show. see less

This thermos actually outperformed my expectations. I'm an avid coffee drinker and it was nice to pour a "hot" cup of joe after 6 hours. The design is ergonomic and easy to handle.It would be nicer if the thermos was available in larger sizes. At 18 ounces it works fine but at say 24 ounces it would be perfect. The fact that it's stainless steel is a plus and the rubberized sides and bottoms really allow for better traction when pouring hot liquids into thermos.I was pleasantly surprised that the outer portion doesn't even get warm to the touch. I would recommend this item to anyone that wants a remarkably hot cup of coffee on the go. see less

If you fill the cup with hot water and let it sit for a few minutes before putting in your tea or coffee, it keeps it hot for hours. . . fits nicely in my car's cup holder. The instructions don't say dishwasher safe, but I put the cup on the top rack of my dishwasher with no problem and wash the lid by hand because of the rubber gasket. I love this mug! Stainless steel inside and out, double-walled insulation keeps coffee hot, sturdy construction, comfortable to hold, drink from anywhere lid, and easy to clean. Yes, there is a lip on the inside rim of the mug itself but this is essential to the no-drip design. If you have a long-handled dish scrubber then it's no problem. [...]I LOVE the fact that the lid is all one piece and I don't have to take it apart to clean it completely. This is a sore spot for me with other travel mugs, as this part inevitably gets worn out over time and coffee residue gets sandwiched between the pieces so you have some serious funk growing in there if you're too busy even one time to take the whole thing apart. Somebody obviously thought long and hard about all the little annoyances inherent in travel mugs when designing this one and I haven't been able to find better. This cup is SUPER durable and never leaks. I've dropped it a thousand times and it never pops open and does not leak. I've had this cup for a couple of years now and my biggest issue with it is that the lid does not completely disassemble for cleaning. I always try to rinse it out after drinking my coffee. Where the lid hinges it is basically just a big bacterial pocket. Because I take creamer in my coffee the smell is really unappealing especially early in the morning. I have tried all kinds of crazy stuff to get the smell out. I've bleached, used alcohol, used boiling water. The smell just won't come out. It is really disappointing. I think the difficulty with the smell is also an issue of the plastic absorbing the smells as well as getting tiny scratches that allow more bacteria to grow. In short if you like your coffee black or own a dishwasher go for it. Otherwise look for something else see less

Let me first say that I appreciate that this is made from recycled materials. I LOVE the fact that it is DISH WASHER SAFE and MICROWAVABLE! My issues are -1- It barely fits in my microwave due to it's height. I have to carefully put it in at an angle...not good. -2- On the lid, the "plug" for the air vent pokes me right in the nose every time I take a sip...and I have to admit, it is surprisingly VERY irritating! I suggest measuring your microwave and checking out the nose-poker before buying. see less

I bought this mug and since it looked so sturdy, tossed the box and receipt. The VERY FIRST time I used it, it leaked. The mug has an interior portion which can be removed from the outside. That part has two pieces, a plastic outer liner and a stainless interior. The plastic part extends INTO the mug. Why didn't they make that the OTHER way, so there would be no risk of this?? So, coffee leaked between the stainless steel interior and plastic exterior. Because that is supposed to be sealed, there is no way to get it out or clean it or fix it. I am afraid to use it because I think I am drinking coffee coming out of between those two walls. I am going to mail this back to the company even though I no longer have my receipt. I poured hot water in it for a cup of tea and it started leaking from the BOTTOM around the rubber mat. It just started bubbling then running all over the counter and not just a little bit. It did quit leaking after a couple of minutes. I had zero problems with it until then. It has never been placed in the dishwasher nor has it been dropped. I don't know if Target will replace it since I no longer have the receipt or if Aladdin will - but I'm about to find out! I had another insulated mug that did the same thing after awhile, so I was excited that this one didn't...until now. It's a shame, it's a perfect fit for my hand, and a perfect size to handle. see less

Same EXACT experience as another reviewer -- used it the first time, and everything was wonderful. The very next time I used it, it leaked all over the place. No matter how I adjusted the lid (different starting point as it screws on, super-tight, or more gentle placement), I couldn't stop my coffee from dribbling down the side (or on my clothes or desk). I never microwaved it or put it in a dishwasher. Just bad merchandise. see less

Need leak resistant insulated cups for travel with kids. These were useless. The button you have to hold down to drink is so hard to press my 3 year old couldn't do it at all, my 5 year old could only drink for 2-3 seconds. And they leaked around said button--when you push it in liquid can flow freely around it. They also leaked around the spout. After one try my kids were mad they couldn't drink & I was wiping up water everywhere. The search continues... see less

Over the years I have either bought or been given dozens of travel mugs and this is by far the winner of them all. The push stopper in the cap saves you from spills which is a big deal in itself plus it can contain more liquid than many of the others. It also has a larger opening for sipping so you don't have to strain to drink the contents. I disagree with the other reviews complaining about it tasting like coffee if you pour for example tea in it in between, because that's a common problem with them all so I wouldn't fault this one for that. Coffee always dominates the taste. Also, I don't think it's a big deal that it's not dishwasher safe, it will last longer with hand washing--I've had mine now for over a year with very frequent usage. I highly recommend this mug and will be back to buy the other colors. see less

Got one last year as a gift and I love,love,loved it! untill it got stolen at work. didnt know where it came from or how to get another one, but I remembered the oxo on the button of the cap, so I looked on line and found it! Im buying one of each color this year, one for my coffee and one for my tea. it's plastic, so it will keep the odor of coffee but they are great spill-proof travel mugs! I carryed mine in my shoulder bag with no worrys! very durable, I dropped mine so many times on the floor. and dropped it once on the driveway and got a small chip on the lid.but otherwise great quality mug! see less

I'm on my 2nd one -my fault- and just purchased 3 more. I've been using these for a few years and with care you won't have any issues. They are NOT bullet-proof! You can't drop it on a concrete slab. You can't microwave any part of it. READ THE DIRECTIONS-WARNINGS. As far as the perfect addition for travel it can't be beat. Saved a lot of words when it would tip over. Does an excellent job. Avoid getting it jammed with coffee grounds though or you will slow-the-flow. Basically treat it well and you'll buy one for a friend. repeat- DON'T MICROWAVE IT-Even with the top removed. One other note- The portion size is not a Big Gulp-but plenty for runs to work. see less

This cup is amazing, I was a little taken back by the price. But, read the reviews and thought ok..if I don't like it I can always take it back for a refund. I like my coffee HOT, to stay hot...not lukewarm! I have to say, I was shocked at how well this cup keep my coffe so hot, so long! I will warn you, when you first use it...BE CAREFUL because it's not like other coffee mugs when you think it's cooled down to take a drink it's NOT. I pour my coffee in the cup, as I'm leaving...leave the lid off go get my purse, and car keys then as I'm going out the door I place the lid on. When I get to my car, I'm still really careful about that first drink. Like my coffee hot but not burn your tongue hot lol, IT'S GREAT! Worth every dime!!! see less

I have gone through countless "leakproof" travel mugs only to have them leak or spill on me. I finally found this Contigo mug with autoseal and was skeptical because of all the times I'd been disappointed in the past. This mug is 100 percent honest to goodness leak proof! I went to my local coffee bar, got my double espresso, screwed the lid on and turned it upside down in front of the barista. She gasped in horror at first, expecting to see a huge mess, but not even a single drop spilled. Every single travel mug from here on out is going to be a Contigo. Great Coffee Mug. Real is Spill proof and Leak Proof. And it fits in my cars cup holder real well. Very easy to use. Nice comfortable handle. Excellent design. Has button on top of handle to open the lid so you can drink or sip. Then releasing it closes the lid and seals it so no liquid leaks or spills out. The lid also comes apart so you can easily clean it. It very solid, durable, and rugged as well. One word of caution. Be carefull of hot liquids. This mug does keep the liquids very hot and you can burn your lips or the tip of your tongue. This is the only Mug allowed in my Electronics Lab at work due to it's spill proof/Leak Proof design. It the best Mug design I have ever seen. I would highly recomend this product and as a great Gift idea. see less
