I do agree that the applicator bottle is terrible - it's a poor shape and slippery- and because of that I do downgrade the "easy to apply" section. However, if you're coloring your own hair all the time, I really suggest you buy your own applicator bottles, I have one with a line of 8 applicator tips so that I don't have to spread my hair every 1/4 inch, it does that for me. This is the best non-ammonia based permanent hair color I've ever used. In fact, as my hair grows out the old color I was using, I can see how much healthier the Olia-only hair is compared to the other stuff. It smells better than any hair color I've ever used, and though I don't recommend it, you could actually use it in closed room without killing yourself. Love it! see less

I had to recently stop going to the salon and switched to doing it myself and this is truly worth it. I saw the otehr reviews about the applicator bottle, and this is something minor but worth the hassle to get the great color and gray coverage. i used a 5.3 shade medium golden brown and it was amazing. my hair never felt so soft, shiny, and healthy! will continue to use this. love it!!! see less

After struggling to cover my Sun-In bleached blonde hair for months, I came across this dye and tried it. It totally covered the blonde that was left over and the blonde didn't start to show until maybe 5 or 6 weeks after I applied it. It did fade throughout that time but I also started shampooing my hair again daily after a few weeks so I think that had a lot to do with it. As others have mentioned, it does come out much darker than you expect by looking at the box and there is a lot of red in it for a warm-neutral color buuuut I really enjoy the red. I was going to buy one of the red shades but was totally happy that I got my dark brown and my red all in one box! I hope Clairol doesn't change the color itself in response to these comments because I LOVE the color -- maybe a change in name and labeling is appropriate as long as we still know that it's this shade under a different name! Other than that, if I listed all the things I do to my hair you'd imagine that I'd have the driest hair in the world but surprisingly, after using this dye my hair is softer than when I started. I straighten and blow dry my hair directly after using it and, unlike other dyeing experiences, it doesn't fry my hair or take away any of the softness. My hair's also the shiniest it's ever been; even after the color itself has faded a lot the shine is still there which is a plus. Overall, I'd recommend this brand and color to everyone! see less

After years of doubt I finally tried root touch-up! There are no words that can describe how satisfied I am with this product. I would normally use a semi-permanent color to avoid harsh chemicals..sitting under the dryer for 30-45 minutes trying to get the color to hold on and last longer. I would usually wash all the color out and my gray hair now yellow ( I call it my blonde highlights, lol). But, Root Touch-Up has changed my life, what use to take 4 hours now only takes 1.5 ( I still sit under dryer for an hour) and the color is true...next time will have a pic! see less

I sectioned off my hair like my stylist does to get all over coverage for my roots and you can't even tell where her color ends and my grays begin! It was wonderful!! It was a little difficult to get to the back of my head with the brush in the angle that it was, but I managed. I tried it again and kept it on longer and still nothing happened. This was my first time dying my hair. I expected it to come out darker from the other reviews, but it really matched my medium to dark brown hair pretty closely. But it is somewhat darker than on the box. I was unsure about how long to keep it on (the box says 25 minutes) because it took me 20 minutes just to get it all through my hair. After covering my whole head I waited about 10 more minutes before starting the rinsing process. It turned out fine though. As far as the quality of it - it's fantastic! My hair honestly looks and feels healthier than it did before I dyed it! I love the chocolate color combined with the nice red tones. And it covered my grays!! I'll definitely use Nice and Easy again. I might try a lighter brown, but this one is good too! see less

I have naturally really blonde hair, and I usually try to dye it a medium golden brown color because I love the color and it suits my complexion better. I had been using L'Oreal products and loved the color result, but within a week my hair was significantly lighter and a couple of weeks and it would almost be blonde again, I could not get it to stay dark. I had heard good things about Nice 'n Easy so I decided to try it out, and I'm happy to say that the color lasts MUCH longer than L'Oreal. It has still lightened a little, but I'm guessing I should expect that since my hair is so naturally light to begin with, but with Nice 'n Easy it has stayed darker for much longer! see less

I've used this dye in the 3N Deep Brown Black for almost a year. Every time I've used it my hair looks really well. The first time, I had bad fading problems, but I also shampooed my hair too soon after coloring. For the last 7 times I've used it, I haven't shampooed the day of coloring nor within the first 24 hours of coloring. My color no longer fades. The Brown Black color is beautiful and rich. And it's easy to get an even application. I have used it on long hair, half way down my back, shoulder length hair, and a pixie cut. With the long hair, you really do need to buy two boxes. And even with the pixie cut, I still use almost 3/4 of the bottle. So plan accordingly. Overall, can't complain at all about this product. I have heard though, that the red shades fade super fast, although that's common with any red shade. see less

I was really looking forward to trying this hair color because I love John Freida's shampoos and conditioners, but I was really disappointed. Although the box says it's permanent and I followed all of the directions to a T, 90 percent of the color faded away after just 2 weeks. This was really sad since the Black Brown shade I chose looked absolutely gorgeous on me when it was at its full intensity before I shampooed. I contacted the company and they were very helpful in dealing with my disappointment, though, so if you do want to give it a try in case my experience was an anomaly, you won't really lose anything. see less

My natural hair color as a teen was medium reddish blonde (with Loads of natural highlights). As a 53 year old, my natural color is dark blonde/light brown and has turned drab (not too many natural highlights anymore with just a few gray hairs at the temples). Nice 'n Easy color blend has given me back my natural highlights (reds and golden strands) with light brown as the base color. Love it!!! No more drab! I have used this particular shade 2 times now. Let me start by saying I LOVED the color originally, even though it was a tad darker than I expected. I had gotten highlights at the beginning of the summer and too many of them and have been fighting my hair's desire to go copper/red. Clove covered the red hue wonderfully and my hair looked and felt very healthy. It was fading nice and evenly and I was thrilled...UNTIL I used the color fresh after 3 weeks (that's how nicely the original was wearing). The Reviver turned my hair red - basically like what the Cinnaberry color looks like on the color swatch!! It looked NOTHING like the original Clove color AND it feels drier than before I used the reviver! Oh, and it DID NOT cover my grays and roots!! I wish I had read the other reviews before I used the reviver because it seems that others have had the same problem. Did the wrong color packet get put in the Clove box?!! The good news is, I was so thrilled with Clove that i will continue to use it, but I will just throw out the color reviver. In the meantime, I'm just glad this is a demi and hoping it washes out QUICKLY!! see less

There recently came a point- after 2 very young kids- where time and money were less negotiable. I searched for semi-perm which is harder to find because I far prefer it to permanent color. It is a very ecconomical way to attain natural lookng color for graying hair and I have received many compliments on this shade from hair stylists and friends. I've dyed my hair just about every shade under the sun. Recently I've been going blonde, but my hair pulls red even though naturally it's dark ash blonde. I've been dying my hair for years with Nice & Easy, and even though it's a great product, the ammonia was starting to be too much for my hair. I was planning to try to get it back to my natural color, but the store I went to was out of Sandalwood. I made a slightly brash decision to get Tweed instead. I had never used Natural Instincts before, but I was interested to try it. I loved that it was applied to wet hair. I have really thick long hair so I usually have to get two packages of whatever I buy, but even though I used two, I probably could have gotten away with one, which is amazing! It was so easy to apply! Knowing that damaged porous hair usually soaks up more pigment I was expecting it to be darker than the picture. It was darker than I even thought it would be,about the shade of a brownie, but I love the richness and the shine so much I prefer it. It really makes my grey eyes pop!!! I had a couple of different colors going on in my hair. My hair is naturally a medium brown. I had it professionally colored for years a light brown with blonde highlights. Well, it's time for a touch up but hubby's work hours are getting cut, so I took the plunge and did my own color this time. A friend told me not to use a permanent color as I might have problems with the hair turning orangey. So I did it...and I totally LOVE it!! OMG!! So glad I rolled the dice!! The color is rich and much closer to my natural color. It's better than I expected. And where my old highlights were, the strands are tinged just a bit, making it looking very natural with a lot of dimension. Not dull or all one solid color. I've gone to fancy salons in downtown Chicago and have paid big bucks for "okay, it's nice" results. This color?! Wow! And I love how healthy and soft it feels.. no straw head! I really hope it doesn't fade out as fast as some of the other reviewers have said. It didn't cover my roots as much as I'd hope and I can see just a few greys (you have to look really close). However, it looks a LOT better than it did, and I don't have that big skunk stripe going down the top of my head. The color is just AWESOME. Next month I think I'll leave it on the roots a little longer (I only left it on 10 minutes). So happy I took the plunge. I can cancel that appt I had set up with the salon! This product gave me the exact color that I expected and fixed my light red hair! I looked up many different products and read all of the helpful reviews and finally chose this color. Red is a very hard color to get out of your hair but this dye did exactly that and left me with a beautiful brown. It did stink a little but I have experienced much worse. It was odd when my gloves turned bright purple while coloring my hair but I think that was from the red dye that was previously in my hair. I am a natural blonde and wanted to switch things up. I used this product because it was the lightest shade of brown availible. I loved my results. My hair was shiny and healthy looking, and coloring also made it easier to style. The inital shade was darker than the box, but by the end of the first week, my hair was the same color of the box. The color faded very naturally, and it wasn't until two weeks after coloring did I fully return to my natural color. I have been using Natural Instincts for many years. I began using it to change my natural color, brown (no gray) to Cinnaberry. I currently use Nutmeg, but have also used Egyption Plumb, and Roasted Chestnut. I have long hair, and one bottle no longer gets the job done, where it used to. Also, I prefer the old conditioner, as it was bigger. The bigger conditioner was replaced to a smaller one when the Refresher was introduced. I have used the Refresher twice (once with Egyption Plumb, then month's later with Nutmeg). It doesn't smell as nice as the hair color, it made my hair have an orange/red tint, and it doesn't feel as nice. I will never use the Refresher again. Please go back to the large conditioner. I asked a woman I work with where she got her color done because it always looked so shiny and natural. What a surprise to discover that her secret was Natural Instincts. My hair is naturally dark brown, but I used the medium brown because I know my hair absorbs the color quickly and always goes dark. I used this brown, #20, as a half-way point to get the colour on the box of 23R - Raspberry Creme. I started at my natural dirty-blonde colour, so I needed to get to a medium brown for the red to turn out right. Overall, the brown was really good. I think I couldve left it in longer than the 10 minutes I did, because you could still see the gold undertones in the sunlight. But overall, smelled good, went on easily, and this was my VERY FIRST COLOURING! Yeah I was a dye virgin, and I used this to full coverage and good effect, so its pretty easy to do. And that conditioner is MAGIC stuff, its so shiny its ridiculous. see less

I really loved the color I got from Natural Instincts brass free 6.5C Lightest Brown. I have about 20% gray and the coverage was great. It also improved the texture of my hair, and that was something I was looking for in addition to the gray coverage. The short processing time and ease of use were definitely perks that went with the color. However, the packet included to use at 2 weeks was a bit below expectation. It turned my hair a shade of orange, and most of it washed out with the first shampoo. I do plan to purchase this color again, but I probably won't be using the included refresher packet anymore. see less

Medium Golden Brown is Medium Reddish Brown on my naturally-medium-brown hair. Which is okay, I guess. (The next shade darker, #20 Medium Brown, was too dark.) I'm mostly writing to say that the "Week 2 Color Fresh" packet is a joke. I followed the instructions to the letter and it left orangish streaks in my hair, so now I have to figure out if I can stand to live with this horrible result till it washes out, or put a whole new solid color on top of it. Whoever dreamed up "Color Fresh" in the Clairol marketing department -- think of something else, please. see less

I have used natural instincts before in suede, so I wanted to use Clairol again once that color faded. The suede on me had been and very nice dark brown. I decided that I wanted to go darker, so I purchased pecan since it was medium brown as opposed to light brown. I've used this color for about 10 years. Before that I dyed my hair red for 20 years. Perfect color and regardless of other reviews I don't find it messy. Hint: after mixing let it stand about three minutes, and it will thicken. The only drawback now that I've hit menopause, is that I seem to lose a lot of hair when I dye it now. I'm searching for the same color in a gentler Clairol formula. see less

I have naturally blonde, thin, shoulder-length hair, and I have always just gotten highlights or all-over color from a salon. But, as a college student on a budget, it has become too expensive! After seeing the commercials and reading the information on this website, I decided to give this a try. IT LOOKS AMAZING! It came out exactly the color shown on the box, my hair feels amazing, and it was soo easy! I had about three different colors on my hair when I used this, and it all came out looking uniform (even the roots!). But the best part is, that even though it is one uniform color, it has dimension, shine, and it was a tenth of the price of the salon! I have gotten so many compliments! I have light to medium brown hair with faint blonde and red highlights and some gray. I always use Natural Instincts for low maintenance color and gray coverage. Usually, I keep the color close to my natural color, but last winter I went a bit darker and tried "Hot Cocoa." I LOVED the result. The slightly darker shade gave my hair depth, and the bronze elements brought out my own highlights without creating too much red. I constantly get compliments on my hair when I use this color. My only observation has been that it seems to fade more quickly and lose depth in strong sun, so it didn't hold up as well when the weather warmed up and I was outside more. I like to lighten up in summer, though, so it didn't present a problem for me. After a summer of using Navaho, I have now gone back to my favorite Hot Coco for fall. see less

Beautiful color! I used this to touch up my roots after I damage a bit trying to dye it from platinum blonde to brown. It left my hair soft and shiny and I got tons of compliments on the shade. It's not to dark with lots of depth and it really flattered my air skin. I'm going to try 18RG Medium Golden Reddish Brown next because I'd like a tone with a bit more red in it. see less

Before I colored my hair I had outgrown low lights and highlights and just wanted to "wash" them away with a product that was not permanent. I called the clariol helpline and they were amazing at helping pick out just the right shade. The mixture did not get all over my bathroom and it did not stain my scalp. It had a pleasant smell and washed out easily. I am very comfortable with your products and def will never stray. good job clairol! see less

I have used Natural Instincts temporary hair color for years. I have gotten many compliments from salons on how healthy my hair is. I just used the new formula that you put on dry hair and the color refresher packet. I used it just as directed and my hair is dry and brittel. I would request you have two formulas the old and new. But in my experience the old formula was much healthier for my hair. It is why I did not use permante hair color, I did not want to dry out my hair. see less
