I bought this for my son's first Birthday. He has been playing with it everyday for a couple months and it played a major role in helping him learn how to walk. Sme reviews say it has sharp edges and loose screws. I went over this thing with a fine tooth comb. Every edge is smooth and rounded, sanded to perfection. The screws are fastened tight and it is a very substantial and solid toy. It enhances motor skills and I love using the alphabet and animal references when teaching my son. At 13 months he still enjoys it, although I do hide it away every so often just to keep it fresh--bring it out again after a week or so and it's like a brand new toy again! For what it's worth, he LOVES the box it came in. I was about to recycle it about a month ago, but he got a hold of it. He plays with it every day...he gets busy pushing it around, playing peekaboo with the cat in it, dropping toys in through the holes in the sides. We have been trying to transition our 2 month old from her co-sleeper to her crib during nap time. She would nap in her crib for a few minutes and wake up, then it was back to the co-sleeper. The music lasts 5 minutes, and my baby learned to push it's tummy and turn it back on. ALSO NOTE inside the Seahorse is a switch to make it loud or quiet. If you think it's too loud, open up it's back and turn it to the quiet setting! The batteries are safe from baby because you need a screwdriver to open the back. You can make it sound like an acoustic or electric, or even a woofer hound. There are 22 songs. All in all, my son loves it, and after I realized how well designed it was, I couldn't pass it up. I have a 15-month old who's played with this since he was around 6 months old. At first he'd only take pieces off or dump the whole thing over, but now he likes to put them back on (in random order) and spin the pieces around. He especially likes the red pieces!My little guy is pretty rough on this toy, and a friend's kindergartener tried to stand on the wooden base -- but it's still holding up great. The paint has gotten chipped though, because of being chewed on.The 3 stacks and different shapes make this complicated, so when we get to working on stacking the shapes in order, I'll probably hide the non-circular pieces at first. This is also good for teaching colors.By the way, my little guy liked this so much that he hid one of the pieces where I've never been able to find it . . . but we still play with the rest. see less

I really loved the idea of this play mat. You can put it together to fit in an oddly shaped space if you need to. It isn't very durable though. After just a couple of weeks I've noticed a lot of scratches on it. If you have a kid who's not super gentle this mat will be destroyed really quickly. I have an infant who really doesn't do much more than lay on it and I've got scratches. see less

My daughter received this as a birthday gift and she seems to really enjoy it. She only received one book, but I have several more on order. I really like that this not only reads the books, but also helps with understanding the story and sounding out the words and letters. My daughter also likes that there is interaction with the pictures. Honestly, my daughter already has a Tag system but she loves it soo much that I decided to get one for a friend's kids. I hope they love it as much as we love ours! I love how the books offer more fun than just your typical reading and it's great for on the go fun and has really helped not only keep my daughter's attention but also teach her some of those sight words she's going to be working on next year in kindergarten. The library has tons of her favorite story characters as well which definitely keeps her happy and the available headphone jack keeps everyone else happy no matter where she decides to break out those books. I'd buy all my kids one, if I had more than one child. : ) see less

The learn to read phonics is best for getting pre-readers engaged with reading. it fosters facility with holding a pen and a book and focusing. Don't get over invested in actual reading skills. It is better for the children to have fun while gaining familiarity with letters and sounds. My very active grandchildren who don't sit still for anything for very long stay engaged with these books for up to 45 minutes at a time with one or two short breaks in between. see less

We got this for my 16 month old for Christmas, and he LOVES it! The only problem is that some of the continents are too hard to push. He ends up tapping it on the ground to get it started. I recently purchased a leappad 2 in the States and brought it home to Italy where I live as an expat. My kids love the leap pad, but downloading new apps is a nightmare. First, you have to but the downloadable code to have a credit for making purchases (and its really hard to find them on the website). Since I have a US credit card I have to purchase the US download card, rather than a European one. Then, when I open my leap pad connect function, I have to change the country to the US for my download code to work (that took about 30 minutes to figure out). Once I finally get the code accepted I can purchase apps, but at least 80% of the apps are blocked because I am using a US credit from an Italian IP address. My kids are so frustrated that we can't get the apps they want. In short, while the unit is great, I would only recommend it in America - elsewhere it is too difficult to manage the downloads. see less

I know the other reviews say the toy is loud, but that's part of the fun! Plus, it's not annoying. It doesn't have a loud, repetitive song like in some other toys. It just sounds a little like a vacuum cleaner. No big deal. My daughter received this toy a year ago when she was one and she still plays with it and is now two years old, and if you're a parent, you know that doesn't happen with many toys. At first you have to help your child where to put the ball, but it's great for teaching cause and effect... You put the ball over here, and the ball comes out over there. After they get it down, this toy entertains them without you having to do anything, and that is also rare in a toy. We love it. Don't listen to the other reviews. Only suggestion, make sure you keep track of the balls. see less

Got this toy for my 9 month old son for Christmas, and he absolutely loves it!!! It's a great product and he loves to chew on the balls and spin the green dinosaur that the balls pass through to get to the bouncing stage. He also thinks it's funny watching the balls bounce everywhere...and I mean everywhere(I think the sides could have been a little higher to keep the balls in better.) I've been working with him to throw the balls back in. I would have liked to have seen a storage space for the balls though, I am constantly chasing the balls down because he gets them out of the dino's belly and rolls them everywhere. I am glad there is a volume setting on it as well. Overall this was a great purchase for my little one! see less

My 8 month old daughter enjoys playing with her treasure chest and exploring how it works. She especially loves the little coins that come along with the chest. She loves hanging onto the coins and crawling around with them in her hand. As a mom, I absolutely love how this treasure chest plays music and makes other little sounds, but it isn't loud and annoying like so many other baby toys. Even though this toy is meant for babies, my 3 yr. old son loved playing with it, too, and of course, it is easier for him to put the coins in the slots than for my 8 month old daughter. My baby girl needs assistance to get the coins in the slots, but she loves holding them and doing a little dance to the music. She likes tapping on the colorful lights on the top as they play music. She can push the balls downs and loves to pull them out of the side cavity. Very entertaining for her.
