If you research what you get with this kit, it would cost you 3 times as much to purchase everthing seperatly. I purchased the kit specifically for the joint brackets and as a bonus I recieved two swings and a set of rings. I did alot of research before I purchased the supplies to build a swing set for my children. It should take you about ten minutes to price out what you want to build, and this is a build kit, not a complete kit. You will realize this is a great bargain. If you read the details on the box it tells you what it comes with and what you need to purchase. I made my own design and went from there, but used all items in the kit. It saved me about $200.00 of the total cost. Buy good lumber do not be cheap. This is for your children. Keep them safe and do it right. see less

This kit is identical to the one I had when I was growing up. I love it for a number of reasons: we chose the wood so it's high quality and STURDY, it blends in nicely with our landscaping (as opposed to a huge set that IS the landscaping), and the kids create the fun! Another review mentions being surprised that it was just the kit. That would be a big disappointment if you were expecting the whole thing to arrive. But YES it is just the kit. Basic kits at other large retailers can be twice as much. My husband had this set assembled in an afternoon, so you have to know your way around a saw, drill, and hammer to cut the boards to length and fasten them together, but otherwise, nothing special required. About the creativity factor: I agree that the huge play sets are super fun. My one hang up is that they tend to create the fun for the kids, rather than the kids creating the fun. With this basic set (grandparents bought added slide and baby swings), our 4 boys have to add a bit of themselves to it. Accessories are available for purchase, but really, a frisbee can be a steering wheel, a paper towel tube their telescope, and a blanket their roof! The only thing I wish was that the platform was a bit bigger...if we were to remake this, I think we'd extend the platform to the end of the beam. Just a thought. see less

We bought it as a birthday gift for all our grandchildren, since it offers something for every age. It exceded our expectations and is so sturdy it even holds grown-ups. The only problem we encountered during the assembly was that the nuts and bolts were not clearly identified which took some figuring out what went where. see less

I was very surprised how big this kit is. You get alot for the price. It was fairly easy to put together as long as you take some time to read the plans which had good instructions, With the bracket system I could do most of the build with a cordless drill and a helper. All the wood came cut to length and well stained. It took me and my brother about 6-7 hrs to build. The kids love it. It has my thumbs up! see less

Although when I first purchased this kit I thought that I would receive a full swing set wood and all, I am still happy that i purchased this kit. It ended up costing me a total of 600 dollars to build this swing set after purchasing all the wood and screws and slide that were required to complete this swing set. This is less than half what it would cost to purchase a swing set already built for you. The 2 of us worked on it for about 5 hours a day for 3 days and we are very happy with the results. see less

I ended up buying the Alpine 612 kit. Similar to this one, but w/o the extra deck section. When i ordered this kit, i pretty much knew what i was getting: all the pieces for assembling a play structure but w/o the wood. Knowing that i actually went to the manufacturer's website, www.swing-n-slide.com, and researched my options. The website not only gives you ton of options, but also gives you an estimated cost for complete set up once you add cost of kit, wood, and accessories.The kit was fantastic. All the pieces are quality, durable, and built to last.Instructions are super easy to follow. They make it as simple as possible every step of the way. Not only are the instructions clear, there is even a DVD that you can watch if you want. I didn't watch the DVD so I'm not sure if it's any more informative than the written instructions.Ok. So how easy was it to build this [...], and how long did it take me?I am not a experienced carpenter or craftsman. I'm probably the least experienced guy i know, but i think i'm smart enough to follow instructions.I knew there's no way i'd be able to build this in 6-8 hrs like it states on the box, especially if i'm doing this alone. I ended up building the structure little by little throughout the week after i got home from work. I then spent the weekend doing a majority of the work. Most things are doable if you are alone, though it would be easier if there was a second set of hands. The only point that I truly NEEDED a second person was when i needed to set up the swing support beam and connect it to the tower part. I grabbed my neighbor and used him for about 10 minutes.After tallying my hours i probably spent a total of 24 hours. Having said that, I was going at a comfortable casual pace, and I was alone. If you are more experienced in this stuff, i'm sure it'd go by much faster.I'm really pleased with everything overall. Good price for what else is out there.One final note. If you buy this set, you should by ground anchors at the same time because they aren't included in the box. I didn't know that until later, after the structure was pretty much done. Also I'd double your purchase of 2 1/2" screws recommended in the instruction book.I'm very happy with this set. Kids love it. You will too. When I ordered this kit, I thought it was the WHOLE KIT. I should have known by the price alone that it was just the hardware, no lumber. Then I did some comparison shopping. We discovered that we could have a great playset (including the lumber this time). A comparable playset at other stores sold for more. It did take my husband, a friend and myself 2 full days of cutting, drilling and installing to get this playset finished, but we did it. The kids LOVE it. see less

This was a gift for my 7 year old from her Nana. I wasn't sure if she'd be too old for this since I read that is was for smaller kids. We assembled it June 2012. The assembly took about 5hours without help. It has lasted the entire summer with my 7yr old and 9yr old son and their daily friends. [...] I don't worry any more because they have broken the thing in and it is ready for next summer too. [...] They really do enjoy the swing even during the sunny days of fall. We bought this for our almost 3 year old and 15 month old. I purchased a seperate bucket swing for him. They played on it all summer, well into fall and even during our January Thaw. It was a little difficult to put together, but well worth it. The kids really enjoy it, and we love watching them play on it. see less

We purchased this set this summer as a birthday present for our 3 year old. After spending [$] and a laborious assembly process I had much higher expectations. This month, 7 months after purchase, the entire set tipped over in a thunderstorm,not a hurricane mind you, a simple storm, and broke into multiple pieces. The manufacturer's website states that they do not warranty for damages from nature. If you manufacture a toy that is meant to be used outside, it should be built to withstand the bare minimum of natural elements. Very disappointed with the stability and sturdiness of a very expensive item. see less

I bought this for my two little kids. The younger boy is 5 and the girl is 9. Both very active outdoor kids. The girl is into gymastics so she loves to do all kinds of things on this. The fort is much larger than it looks as well. They have campouts in it during the day and sometimes can spend hours on it in just one day. [...] I am very please wit the build of this. The kids absolutely love this. We have a 4 year old and a 1 1/2 year old. We purchased a little tikes baby swing and replaced the middle swing with that for the time being. The little guy is too small to climb up the fort area, but we filled up the sandbox area with plastic basketballs and he loves to play with that. There's a lid that keeps this dry and clean. We also pick him up and put him on the fort area, and he loves the slide. Both kids swing next to each other. The set took awhile to put together but it is very durable. They say it's good for ages 3-10, but it works fine for younger if you replace one of the bigger swings. They love to swing together on the glider! I feel that this is a smart investment and you'll get your moneys worth. We didn't want to purchase a wooden set b/c of possiblity of splinters, rotting wood and low resale value. It is very attractive as well. see less

I hired someone to install last week. April 2012. 2 pieces came back broken, but customer service was really fantastic so that was good. Slide is so fast, my daughter fell twice going down. I then tried and yes I was afraid too, my 130 lb. body got airborne somehow sliding over those slick waves. Rock climbing wall could be a little less vertical as well. Love the look of the entire set, just have to call or figure out slide I guess. see less
