This was a Christmas gift, and I am still absolutely thrilled with it. I love the level of personalization. My daughter has a unique name, so I wasn't expecting the little dog to be able to say it. I was more than impressed when I found out that, not only can the little dog pronounce her name correctly, but we were able to input our own spelling so the dog can spell it correctly, as well. The personalization program is so easy to use, too! All of her favorite songs, foods, animals, everything can be programmed in and incorporated into the dog's play. The night I set it up, I couldn't stop playing with it. Maybe I'm just easily entertained, but this is probably one of the coolest toys I've ever seen, and I feel cheated that they didn't have stuff like this when I was a kid! see less

My in-laws got us the green puppy as a present for our 3 month old and of all the toys she has, this is the one that never fails to sooth or entertain her for a LONG time. We had to abandon our home for a night due to a flood and this is the only toy we took with us. You can program the pup using the USB on your computer so the toy grows with her. It's hard to beat a toy singing a song about it's favorite animal being a Manatee and eating mashed potato's. She's 7 months old now and she goes off and on with liking certain toys but this one is the only one where she smiles every time she see's it! see less

My 5yr old daughter has had this toy the SCOUNT version, since her 2nd birthday... SHE STILL asks for it, to sing the songs to have it at night for the lullaby's etc. It's great, bc it grows WITH the child since you get to pick the songs the dog plays by hooking it up to your computer via usb. You pick your child's name, fav color, animal, food... So whenever their likes change you can just change the puppy! She loved it so much, and we loved it so much as parents that we bought our next child the purple "Violet" one on her 1st birthday! Now they both have one! see less

I love how the books offer more fun than just your typical reading and it's great for on the go fun and has really helped not only keep my daughter's attention but also teach her some of those sight words she's going to be working on next year in kindergarten. The library has tons of her favorite story characters as well which definitely keeps her happy and the available headphone jack keeps everyone else happy no matter where she decides to break out those books. I'd buy all my kids one, if I had more than one child. : ) see less

The learn to read phonics is best for getting pre-readers engaged with reading. it fosters facility with holding a pen and a book and focusing. Don't get over invested in actual reading skills. It is better for the children to have fun while gaining familiarity with letters and sounds. My very active grandchildren who don't sit still for anything for very long stay engaged with these books for up to 45 minutes at a time with one or two short breaks in between. see less

I recently purchased a leappad 2 in the States and brought it home to Italy where I live as an expat. My kids love the leap pad, but downloading new apps is a nightmare. First, you have to but the downloadable code to have a credit for making purchases (and its really hard to find them on the website). Since I have a US credit card I have to purchase the US download card, rather than a European one. Then, when I open my leap pad connect function, I have to change the country to the US for my download code to work (that took about 30 minutes to figure out). Once I finally get the code accepted I can purchase apps, but at least 80% of the apps are blocked because I am using a US credit from an Italian IP address. My kids are so frustrated that we can't get the apps they want. In short, while the unit is great, I would only recommend it in America - elsewhere it is too difficult to manage the downloads. see less

If your child is as big of a fan of the LeapPad as mine is you should definitely invest in this bundle. I have spent so much money on batteries it's ridiculous. So having the rechargeable batteries for on the go use and the adapter at home is a huge money saver now. My only complaint is that the case doesn't provide enough room for the headphones. I'm very disappointed that the case is ONLY big enough for the LeapPap and the cartridges. There is a pink tote case design for girls that can hold headphones, adapter, etc. So why doesn't the neutral color which is ideal for boys not have the same conveniences? see less

a nephew of mine received a Lettersaurus as a presence and because we find it educational and my child tend to like it we bought another one, the toy is really good it just we just find out that the letter X has an erroneous concern and will surely confuse a child with it's X - exit, due to this I don't let my child play the said portion of the toy anymore, hope you can address this concern for the benefit of the children who really are enjoying the said toy. We love all LeapFrog toys we have so far. In reference to several other reviews, I like that the "x" uses the word "exit." My son is only 15 months old and saying the letter x and then a word that doesn't use that sound wouldn't make sense at this point. This one word on one toy is certainly not going to harm his ability to learn to read or write. I like that it has three settings. Right now my son loves music so that is his favorite setting, and I'm sure as he gets older the colors and letters will be more interesting. It would be fun if it said his whole name like Scout does. see less

Purchase the skin for durability. One of the buttons is already starting to rub off and he has only had this for 30 days. I may see if I can exchange it. Love that it plugs in to charge - the biggest downfall of the first leap pad. My son loves the headphones and has the cases to hold all of his games also. He loves it. He has spent hours playing the NFL and star wars game that I bought him and we went online and picked out apps together (Trex run, monkey soccer). The apps are great. He even enjoys the included Sillies app which I was worried might be too young for him. A total win. Oh yeah, and my 8 year old with the Nintendo asks if he can have a turn and a login on the LeapsterGS. I only wish there were more reading game apps like the old Star Wars Reading. see less

My husband & I decided not to go the route of buying our son a million electronic toys, preferring building toys & books. However this was a first birthday gift from friends, and he LOVES it. We love that the speaking voice and songs are among the better quality I have heard. Also, there is enough variety in the songs and games to not leave you wanting to bang your head up against a wall. Perfect to keep H. entertained when we are in the car, and for packing in his go bag. Battery life is holding up well with continued use. Overall, well worth the money. Would say from our experience, 6 months might be a little young, and 2 years a bit old. Would recommend for the 9-18 month range. see less

Every child is different. For our child, this has been the perfect toy! Whenever I'm heading to/from daycare with her (only 8 min each way), she gets bored and starts stripping off her shoes, socks, tossing toys, etc. I keep trying to keep her engaged, but she hasn't quite learned to talk yet (songs don't have that much interest yet), and loves having something in her hands. Nana got her this phone for her 1st birthday. She absolutely loves it! Not only does it keep her engaged for her short car trips (so I don't have to re-dress her when we get to our destination), but it also keeps her from grabbing for our phones. The other day when I brought her home, she kept pressing the #4 and saying f-- before the phone said "Four." If she doesn't know her numbers through 10 from this thing before she's 18 months, I'll be surprised. My only complaint is that I can't call it when it's gone missing. :) (My daughter likes putting stuff in/under other things. I bought this violet cell phone for my 18 month old grandaughter who is always picking up my sons and his wife's Blackberry cell phones and pressing ALL the buttons at once. She leaves the phones in the most rediculous places and they are always running around looking for the phones! Well now she has her own! I'm sure this will be much more interesting for her! The phone is well built and is great for small little hands and a curious mind. The value is great also. Originally I bought this for a christmas gift but "I" couldn't wait and gave it to her sooner obviously! Now she has a jump start on learning by two months. We bought this for our daughter because she LOVES her stuffed pal Violet and we want to encourage reading...the book shown open on the back of the box and in the preview photos online shows Scout and some puppy buscuits, leading you to believe that you're getting a Scout/Violet reading tool and a book about their adventures... WRONG! The "book" is just a giant ad for all of the OTHER Tag Jr. books. Each page shows a different book and a 'sample' page from it. The package photo and preview photos have been edited to make it look otherwise. Yet this product is still the same price as the previous Tag Jr. product that didn't have the Scout/Violet readers and had the regular gray/white ones, but DID come with a book. I'm aware that we'll need to buy additional books for our daughter, but the packaging misleads you into believing you're getting a book and you can use the product right out of the box. Sorry but I'm not letting my child read an ad instead of a book. So unprofessional!! see less

My youngest daughter has the Leapster Explorer that we purchased for her sister a few years ago. She uses it a lot, but I recently purchased more ebooks and videos and discovered that there wasn't enough room. Along comes the updated LeapPad2 which has some of the same functionality of our iPad. I purchased it and she opened it. Even before I loaded the apps, she was taking pictures and enjoying the demo apps. Huge success - she wanted to sleep with it. Picture quality for the camera appears to be low, but I haven't looked to see if there is a way to improve it. Kids notice when the quality doesn't match their parents phones/tablets, so companies should not skimp in these areas. see less

I have NEVER written a public review of any product before but I am so annoyed with this product I was inspired to do so. This product only has 10MB of storage so it can only hold 4 or 5 books on it. Seriously? This is 2012, memory is CHEAP for a [$] I do not want to, nor should I have to load and delete and reload books. I bought more than 5 books to go with this toy for my daughter but she cant use them all. What a waste! I would have rather have paid [$] and had the memory that it needed than waste my time or tell my daughter "sorry, you can't read that book right now, we arent at home and that isn't the book downloaded at the moment." see less

We love this game! The spelling challenges keep our daughter intrigued. The rewards like decorating the braids with flowers you choose seem to encourage her to play more spelling games. I liked that this game included many different things, a story, a place to paint, a spelling game, and reading assistance. It's a wonderful mix of things that keep her interested. It does a great job of teaching Spanish for colors, numbers, directions, and shapes as well geography and cultural facts. The gel skin cover fits perfectly over my son's Leap Pad 2. It is a good cover as far as protection from dirt, scratches, and little hands that might have a little leftover snack on them. I was hoping it would be a little thicker, as far as for shock (drop) absorption, but a little barrier is better than none. I also wish it came with some sort of screen protector though, either as one piece or even a separate peel & stick kind. That would be my recommendation for improvements. see less
