A really kind women stopped me yesterday at Trader Joe’s and said, “get ready, you’re about to enter some of the worst years of your life. I have two that are two years apart and it was so tough”. I’m not being sarcastic when I say she was kind, because she was! When she said this, she meant it very harmlessly. I just smiled and said, “oh man”, because I didn’t want to make her feel bad for expressing her difficulties. We then continued to talk about the mystery of parenthood, and how you just never know how things are going to turn out. Each child will be different, and the adjustments they make as they learn to share their world with another is all circumstantial and varies widely. At the end of the day, you try your best, and pray for strength when things get tough. I would like to say it’s all about perspective. Going into it knowing you’ll have hard days, but you’ll also have beautiful days that steal your heart like no other as you watch the children that came from you grow and learn to decipher and adjust to this world in the ways they naturally know how. Yes, little people can be difficult. They come with their own agenda. But there is so much to be said about getting to be the one that leads and directs their emotions, strengths, and weaknesses into ways that are productive and healthy. Raising a child is like going to school, you spend those 18 years studying and learning about them, so that you can best create an environment for them to flourish and thrive well. Idk. I don’t want to preach something I obviously have a few more weeks till I experience myself. But, I will tell you I’m not going into it afraid. I don’t dread the hard days. I expect them- with a whole lot of good days sprinkled in to make them all worth the end result ✨
