We love this doorbell so much! We changed the chime to a holiday sound for Christmas and our neighbors thought it was fun. I’m giving 4 stars because the battery does not stay charged for long unless we had our settings wrong. Our neighbor actually helped us wire it to our house power so we don’t have to charge it anymore and it’s perfect for what we needed

We also appreciate you for letting us know of your concern with the battery life, and that you and your neighbor were able to wire it for continuous power. We hope you’re making the most out of its features, and if ever you encounter any challenges with using the doorbell effectively, let us know by visiting us at the Google Nest Nest page and we’d be happy to help you.

GO WITH A BETTER DOORBELL

Sheka - 3 months ago
I've had this doorbell for exactly 1 year. The picture is clear, but the videos can't be viewed a few hours after it's captured. Most importantly, there is NO chime. I have sought help to connect it to my nest mini, but nothing. It won't even chime on my phone. This was a costly lesson, I just went out and purchased the RING doorbell as a replacement to not only have a chime but so that my captured videos won't disappear after 2 hours.
1 reply from Nest Support team - 3 months ago
Hello Sheka, we truly appreciate your feedback on Nest Doorbell (battery), and it’s unfortunate to hear it didn’t meet your expectations. Although Nest doorbells have sounds that help you know what’s happening (for example, when it restarts), a chime is not included, But when a visitor presses your Nest Doorbell (battery), you can hear an audible alert if you have compatible smart speakers or displays. You can connect a Google speaker or display and set up visitor announcements if you want to get notified when someone rings your doorbell when you’re home. Also, alerts for Google Nest cameras are a bit more complex than for other Nest products since you can choose motion and sound alert settings, and change how and when you’ll get them. However, the sound that you’ll hear from your phone depends on the phone’s notification settings. For more details, visit the Gogole Nest Help center We understand that you have replaced your doorbell with a different one. But if you find yourself wanting to rey the Nest doorbell again in the future, we’d be more than happy to provide you with services and assistance for any support concerns you may have, at the Google Nest Help page.

Poor battery and only 3hrs viewing without the never-ending subscription

Sherri - 4 months ago, Verified purchaser
The battery lasts a shorter time than expected, 2-3 months in warm weather, 1-2 months in the winter, and Google requiring a subscription to see more than 3hrs of video seems manipulative and shrewd.
1 reply from Nest Support team - 4 months ago
Hi there Sherri, thanks for reaching out. We're sorry for any disappointment you may be having with the battery life and the Nest Aware subscription for your Nest Doorbell (Battery). For Nest Doorbell (Battery), battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. You can extend the battery life by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios: Busy: About 1 month battery life (About 25 - 30 recorded events per day) Typical: About 2.5 months battery life (About 13 - 16 recorded events per day) Quiet: About 6 months battery life (about 2 - 5 recorded events per day) We recommend checking the frequency of events (per day) that you get with your Nest Doorbell (Battery). If the short battery life isn´t related to the frequency of events, then we may need to have a closer look at your device and understand what may be causing it. Also, we recommend getting the Nest Aware subscription, as it provides more value for your money with features that include 30 days of Video History, 24/7 continuous recording, access to clips and time lapses and even customizing your own activity zones. You won't ever have to worry about missing any events as these videos and clips are all saved onto the Cloud. All these features can be viewed and controlled at the tip of your fingertip using the Google Home App. You may contact our support team for further assistance by visiting the Google Nest support page.

The wireless doorbell does not have a chime feature. I do not know if anyone is at the door, due to it being just a little pop up on my phone. I get 30 of those a day.
1 reply from Nest Support team - 8 months ago
Hi there, thanks for sharing your feedback and concerns about the Nest Doorbell (battery). A chime is not included with a purchase of Nest doorbells, but when a visitor presses your Nest Doorbell (battery), you can hear an audible alert if you have compatible smart speakers or displays, like Nest Audio or Nest Hub. You can connect a Google speaker or display and set up visitor announcements if you want to get notified when someone rings your doorbell when you’re home. You'll only get visitor announcements on your speakers and displays if they are set up in the same home as your doorbell in the Home app. Or if you choose the optional hard-wired installation, it will work with an existing doorbell chime if you have one. If you need help around the features and functionality of the Nest doorbell, please feel free to contact us at the Google Nest Help page.

Biggest waste of money. App is Google Home Not NEST, like my other NEST cameras !! Unit is plugged in at all times with power supply purchased FROM GOOGLE. Yet battery dies and unit stops recording all the time ! Too hot, too cold… same story unit completely shuts down. Garbage ! Unbelievable a company like google can’t build a functioning wireless doorbell, it seems like every other company can & has.

I’ve had this for about seven months. I took it off to charge (which you have to do every few weeks) and now it won’t latch back on. I’ve tried several times and I can’t get it to work anymore. I did call Target customer service and they had to transfer me. The girl I spoke with was very helpful and out in a request with the manufacturer. Waiting to see what they say.

Tiffany W - 9 months ago, Verified purchaser
My entire house is now filled with Google items: doorbell, 2 hubs, mesh wifi etc. I absolutely loved the doorbell until it started to say the battery was low while being plugged into a power source for the bell. I ended up having to dismount the bell and charge inside before I could hook it back up to the bell and it recognize the battery didn't need to be charged in the first place due to being plugged in. I'm not sure if this particular bell is faulty or not but it's been increasingly difficult to monitor my front door. in the past 2 months I've had to do this twice. Not sure if I should exchange for another one or try something new altogether. At this point I'm over it. I just want a working doorbell especially considering how much I paid for it.

Hi Tiffany W, thanks for investing high on Google Nest devices, and for sharing your feedback on Nest Doorbell (battery). We’re sorry to learn that you came across this power issue while your doorbell is plugged into a power source for the bell. It is important to make sure that the doorbell is receiving enough power, with wires delivering 8 - 24 V AC, and at least 10 VA, 50/60Hz. If you'd like, we'd be happy to guide you with structured troubleshooting procedures and learn how we can provide a better experience for you. Great video, no chime without google speakers

4 out of 5 stars
KS - 10 months ago
The video quality and accuracy in picking up events is definitely better than the Ring doorbell I had before. One star taken away because this doorbell alone does not ; phone notifications only. I only had Alexa devices and had to buy a google nest hub (or mini, alternatively) in order to heat the chime in my house like you’d expect from a doorbell. If you don’t have any google speakers, please know you’ll need to buy some in order to hear any rings, or keep your phone off silent.
1 reply from Nest Support team - 10 months ago
Hi KS, thanks for giving us a review about the Nest Doorbell (battery), and we’re sorry to learn that you had bought another Google Nest Hub to have a chime in your house. A chime is not included with a purchase of Nest doorbells, but when a visitor presses your Nest Doorbell (battery), you can hear an audible alert if you have compatible smart speakers or displays, like Nest Audio or Nest Hub. Also, Google offers a Smart Home skill for integrating your Nest devices with Amazon's Alexa home control. Alexa can announce when someone presses the doorbell or when the doorbell detects motion or events. Visit the Google Nest Help Center to learn about how to control the Nest devices with Amazon Alexa. For concerns or questions that need our support, please feel free to find us anytime at Google Nest Help page and we’d be more than happy to help.

1 reply from Nest Support team - 10 months ago
Hi Omar, thanks for providing us your feedback on Nest Doorbell (battery), and we’re sorry to learn of your disappointment with its battery life. Your camera could be detecting a lot of activities, as the battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera/doorbell settings that you select. You can extend the battery life of your doorbell by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. If you have to charge the battery more often than you should, you may consider connecting your doorbell to a power outlet with the included or optional power adapter to keep the battery charged. Please note that the power adapter included with the Nest doorbell is not weatherproof and not intended for outdoor use. We can help you check for other reasons why the battery only lasts for four days, and we encourage you to visit us whenever you have time for troubleshooting guidance, at the Google Nest Help page.

Hi Dave, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that the Nest Doorbell’s battery didn’t meet your expectations. Nest Doorbell (battery) is designed for the outdoors with the temperature range of –4°F to 104°F. Battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. You can extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios: - Busy - About 1.5 months battery life (about 20 - 25 recorded events per day) - Typical - About 3 months battery life (about 9 - 12 recorded events per day) - Quiet - About 7 months battery life (about 2 - 4 recorded events per day) If you’re willing to try, we recommend checking the frequency of events (per day) that you get with your Nest Cam (Battery). Battery life no where close to advertised, but works well with Minis!

3 out of 5 stars
trishinboots - 1 year ago, Verified purchaser
My husband and I purchased this doorbell because our apartment didn't come with one already installed. (Well, it did, but was from the prior tenants and was some crap bluetooth device that kept breaking.) We chose the Google doorbell because it would link to our Google Home Minis on the 1st and 2nd floors so we could "hear" the doorbell anywhere from inside, not just via notifications on our phones. Installing it took a bit of effort -- we watched YouTube videos about drilling into brick, which is the material we were trying to mount the doorbell into outside. For that, we also needed a masonry drillbit. Once we got the mount installed, setup was a breeze. I like the way the video in the Google Home setup walks you through it all step-by-step. That said, the battery life is pretty terrible. We live in the city (Philadelphia) and there are constantly people going by our door. We wanted to keep the area that would trigger recording large, but ultimately had to reduce it to just our immediate doorstep because we had to charge the device every other day with multiple "events" per hour. We also turned off sound recording because 1. we weren't sure of the legality of it in Pennsylvania (we think it's not legal unless you provide some sort of indication so a person can "consent" and the little provided sticker didn't seem enough to us), and 2. it also seemed to be a battery drain. After making those two changes, we're able to get 7-10 days out of a charge. This is drastically shorter than the "months" of battery life advertised. I think if you turn off the camera, maybe you'll get "months" of life, but what fun is it to pay this much money for a video doorbell and not use the video? How else will I know that my neighbor's dog is getting all of his walks in? Linking it to the Minis was easy as well. We get notifications on our phones any time there is an "event" regardless of whether anyone presses the button to ring the doorbell, and then we hear the chime via the Minis (it says, "ding! someone's at the [location of your doorbell in the Google Home app; "front door" for us]"). It's nice to have the phone notifications as back-up because not every delivery person rings the doorbell and so if I get a notification I can run out and grab something before it gets stolen by porch pirates. Overall, it's a good doorbell but if I owned my home, I'd have just had someone install the hardwired version. It sucks having to take this thing down for 3-4 hours each week to charge it.
