Q: how does this attach to the tree? is it a clamp type clip that opens (almost like a hair clip)?

I have had my tree topper up for about a week. We turn it on at night with the rest of the tree, so only about 7 hours. The topper is now giving out, flickering and glitching. we tried playing around with other extension cords and nothing. Sad :(

It’s really pretty but doesn’t last long. After less than 10 uses it’s given out. It may just be mine. I’ll try to exchange it and see if I have any better luck. I’ll include before and after pictures to show. As others mentioned it is really heavy. If you have a tree with sturdy branches it’s not an issue. But it’s not a good fit for those with a more flexible tree

The instructions say you can only plug directly to wall. Never use extension cords. The cord of the star is too short to be plug from tgr top of a 7ft tree all the way down to the wall plug, I feet above the floor. We returned the item

The issue is not that the adaptor is not compatible with extension cords, it will work when connected to an extension cord.
