All the Mower We Need!

Like so many others here, I LOVE this little lawn mower!!! When we recently moved into our new home in May, the grass was out of control. We desperately needed something to cut it with, but had never used a power mower before. I particularly didn't like the ideas of having electrical cords to run over, or batteries to charge, or carting gas cans about. So when I found the Earthwise American reel mower on Target's website, it appealed to me on many different levels. And now that I bought one, I'm here to say, if you are debating buying this "quaint" little lawnmower, snap it up NOW. This baby does an amazing job!!! To begin, I was able to assemble the mower myself in about 10 leisurely minutes. Mowing is even easier. Just start rolling! We took the cue from other reviewers who recommended working in sections, rolling out to the furthest point before turning to continue mowing in the opposite direction. It is also recommended that you alter your mowing "pattern" from vertical to horizontal each time you cut. Apparently it's good for the grass. In late spring when I bought this mower, my goal was only to manage the length of the grass. But I will tell you this: after using it for 3 months, I am seeing a definite improvement in the appearance of the lawn. When we moved in, it was patchy with many bald spots. Now, it seems to be growing in nicely green and lush. And we haven't done anything extra. Just that it has been exceptionally rainy this summer. Some people have mentioned that their reel mower couldn't handle taller weeds and grasses. We found that to be true. It will cut some, but misses many others--flattening them to the ground only to pop up later. The answer is adding an edger to your simple lawn maintenance "system". After just one pass, we have had no more problems. Our total mowing area is about .60 acre, and this mower has been perfect for cutting a lawn of this size. But if you are really committed to a greener world and want to mow a larger area over several days, more power to you! It's good for your grass, and it's unbeatable exercise for you. I also noticed comments about neighbors and friends laughing at people using this lawnmower. Well we are happy to tell you we haven't noticed that at all. And now that the lawn is looking pretty darned awesome, I'm willing to bet we'll be seeing our neighbors pushing them too!!!

PERFECT FOR SMALL LAWNS

Ok, I was sceptical that I would be able to use this, I thought it might be too difficult to push, especially up a little side hill I have. But it worked really well and was much easier than I thought, even on the side hill. I had to go over some areas several times to get it cut the length of the rest of the lawn. I have a small lawn so this worked out perfect. You will need to sharpen the blades after about every third use with a blade sharpener. That is about all the maintenance you will have to do.

Not good grass is not in descent shape

I don't know how this has worked for the other reviewers. I admit my grass was overgrown. I thought I'd have to run it a few times, but all it did is mostly run over the grass, rather than cut it. Then it would slide when grass gets stuck in the blades. Perhaps it works better when grass is lower to the ground and in better shape. This is not for me.

Great product! Worked really well but I'd recommend it for people with a relatively small yard because it is really good exercise. It was very simple to put together; the hardest part was snapping the e-rings into place. It's fairly compact and easy to store, and, most importantly, easy to maintain. Keep it oiled up and according to the instructions it should last a couple of years before needing sharpening.

Any reviews saying this is easy to assemble are either A lying B. professional contractors or C they had better drawings in their box than I did. I'm disappointed that I had to return this but the instructions were awful, and the pics were 2"
