Filters help absorb odors that compost pails produce. These filters are for Norpro's stainless steel compost keeper, item #94 & #95. Filters should be changed approximately every 6 months, depending on use, heat and humidity. Do not wash and reuse filters. To replace filters just pull old filters out and toss. Inside replacement packet are two filters, one square filter and one round filter. Insert the square filter first. Just push it into the lid next to the holes in the lid, using your hands. Insert the round filter second. It goes in the other part of the lid and does not touch the other filter. Just work it in with your hands.
We own a Natural Home® 1.3 Gallon Stainless Steel Compost Bin and these filters fit perfectly in our lid. Helpful in keeping fruit flies from invading our kitchen, they also keep the stink contained especially in the summer months when the compost is at it's absolute ripest! I will point out it has just one SET of filters, used together to keep your decomposing food under control. They are supposed to be replaced more often than we do it so I will also vouch for their lasting ability to work beyond when they are supposed to.
I interpreted the description incorrectly and thought that this would be a 2-pack of filters (2 replacements) however it is a single set (one use), so the price is higher than I would like to pay. Works well, same as the original that came with my compost container. We did have to cut it down a little to fit but that was easy to do.
I purchased these filters for a compost can which was purchased from Target just over a year ago. My mom loves this compost can and has just recently needed to replace the filters. (Because I originally purchased several extra replacement filters when I purchased the composter.) I understand that the lid design has been changed in the newer model, but feel that a larger round filter should be included in the current pack. For anyone interested, I was able to use two bamboo skewers to hold the smaller filter in the big lid. It seems to be working right now. I do not plan to purchase a newer model just so the filters fit properly.
My husband bought be the stainless steel compost keeper from Target for me for Christmas. Which was great until I had to replace the filter. Target is happy to sell the compost keeper which becomes useless without a filter. The filters they sell don't fit the compost keeper they sell (or at the one I have from there). Also, they don't sell them in the stores, so you have to buy online--which means paying shipping charges in some cases. Overall, I'm very disappointed
This product may work fine, but it's a lot smaller than the dimensions offered on the website, which say the filters are over 9". I looked through many websites and was unable to find any filters with size information. I needed one at around 8 ", so I was very pleased when I saw this on the Target website. I figured that I could cut it down if necessary. I realized, when I looked at the delivered filters, that the dimensions include the PACKAGING. The actual size of the filter is about 6 1/2 inches in diameter. I will now have to send them back. I have no idea what the quality or durability of this product is, so I kept it all at one star to call attention to the issue of size.
