Introducing the fastest showdown in town! All around the world, all-star teams have assembled to compete in one legendary event. The trial of trials, the game of games-20 Second Showdown! Now it's time for you to step into the arena and see what you're made of. Split into two teams and pick a player to take the hot seat. Turn over a Challenge Card, flip the timer and get ready to tackle whatever crazy challenge the card throws at you. There's all sorts of missions, from "Count the teeth in your mouth" to "Find a plant and hug it," "Swap shoes with a member of your team" to "Sing the first line of the National Anthem, hiccupping between each word"-so you better be ready for anything! Once your player has completed their challenge, it's time to flip the timer back over and put your opponents in the hot seat by reading out a new challenge for them. Turn by turn, teams move down the line, so each player has a go at taking on a challenge from the deck. The first team to run out of sand loses the round. Now they have to reset the timer-while the winners parade around like the heroes they are. The first team to win three rounds are declared the champions of 20 Second Showdown!
I’m only writing a review to clarify a couple of comments. I looked up reviews while I was in the store and decided to go ahead any buy it despite some of the negative reviews. I’m glad I did.
Once I got it home I opened up the cards and read through each of them (twice) to find anything offensive. All 396 prompts! I did find a couple that I pulled out, and I will list the card number below so that you can find them easily and pull them out as well.
Insult each member of your team (243)
Give yourself a love bite/hickey. It must leave a mark (271)
Flick the earlobe of everyone on the team (not too hard!) (102)
Wink murder every player on your team and watch them die (158)
There were a couple more that I felt were questionable, but either worth keeping because the back of the card had a good prompt (they are double sided) or they could be skipped or modified based on maturity level.
Just to clarify, one reviewer claimed there was one about choking and I couldn’t find anything of the sort after reading them all twice. She also claimed there was one about making out in the mirror, and it actually states “Find a mirror and kiss your reflection.” Personally I don’t find that offensive, but use your judgement.
Of the 396 prompts I found 4 (.01%) that I didn’t care for. There are tons of silly/hilarious cards in there that I think will make for an entertaining game. I’m only taking off one star for having to read through them all to find the offending cards.
We had fun playing this, but I got rid of about 20 cards because they were either not appropriate for my kids, or just too crude or offensive (insulting team members, removing clothes, farting, etc.). I removed a star for this, plus another star because the age range and # people needed to play are a bit misleading.
I would say the appropriate age range is more like 14+. And though you could technically play with only 5 people, you really need at least 7 for it to be truly fun and challenging. A lot of the cards are just way too easy if you just have 2 pp per team (plus a "referee" as the 5th "player").
Could have been a 5 star game if they had chosen to put better "actions" on the cards that would work for younger and fewer players.
I own this game and this person is definitely exaggerating:
* There is no card to choke yourself. The closes is one asking you to hold your breath for 5 seconds.
* There isn't one that says to make out with yourself in the mirror - there is one saying to give the mirror a quick peck
This is absolutely a family-friendly game!
INNAPROPRIATE for children. Some cards tell you to choke yourself, make out with your self in the mirror, and give yourself a hickey! So shocked they thought this was appropriate for children!!! I gave this as a gift to my niece and she now is only allowed to play with the timer and for good reason!
This is the best new game we have played in a long time! Plays the best with big groups but once we started we could not stop! The challenges are super funny, but you have to move fast or the time will run out. I LOVE how they made a sand timer that makes noise so you don't have to keep an eye on the timer...... This game is SO clever and original. Love it. We played so many rounds, and then we switched up the teams and played the cards over again with new results...... The group learned the game in about a minute... Very easy..... Great social party game for families or friends... I can see this being fun for kids too.... Well done!
