I would suggest these as 'soft pastels' (more for paper or blackboard than concrete/abrasive material). I'm an artist, and these have become one of my new favorites. They remind me of the inexpensive Mont Marte soft pastels but softer (can be good or bad depending on what you want). Would rate 5/5 but I wish there was more pigment/vibrancy. -great blendibility, very soft -can erase -easy starter kit, easy to work with -great!!! price point!!

FYI, this actually only suitable for using on the blackboard. Doesn’t work on the papers. However, it does have nice range of colors.

As an avid sidewalk chalk hobbyist, I was so excited to see the price of these. But if this is your intention when buying these, I would pass. They crumble extremely easily and are very fragile - they also transfer way too much of the color to the medium you are using (and I use chalk pastels with an extremely light hand). Basically, the whole box was used up on an extremely small piece that I did with my kids. It’s better to invest in a slightly pricier set to really get what you are looking for. (Most of this was done with Crayola chalk but the dark colors were all used up in the small detail I used on this (chalkydoc on Instagram)
Anyone can be an artist with these!

These were easy to simply open and start using. We made gorgeous pictures with basic copy paper and simple line drawings. These are really pigmented and can smudge/rub and blend to create beautiful artistic effects. Kids love seeing how “fancy” and artistic their drawings become after a bit of smudging. These can be easily snapped in half or thirds so multiple kids/people can use a color at the same time. They do create a whole lot of dust residue and are pretty messy, but that’s part of the fun and makes the process feel really authentic.

The price point on these are affordable. These worked on construction paper, black paper, computer paper and that is what I needed them for. I would definitely purchase again.

These things break so ridiculously easy and make such a mess. I understand chalk creates dust but this is an over exaggeration. Never again. These have officially gone in the trash.

They suck - 1 year ago
They suck because I was gently using them then they suddenly broke and for some of them before I even put them on the paper they broke.

My daughter is an art major and she uses different tools for her art. She purchased some pastel so my son who is 7 wanted some as well. Therefore, I purchased these and he really enjoy using them.

Most of the colors do not appear on a black chalk board. Going with a Crayola or similar brand probably would have been a better choice.

Love love these pastels!! I do adult coloring books. These chalky pastels are perfect for the backgrounds of the coloring pages. They are a little bit messy to use but it is so worth it. If you don’t know how to use these pastels on your adult coloring books; you can go to YouTube and they have instructional videos for you to watch. If you do adult coloring books consider these pastels for your backgrounds.
