I didn't have gnats or any type of bugs. I used this for planting ivy, ferns, herbs and spinach. The herbs aren't growing but everything else is growing like gangbusters. I would buy this again.

As others have mentioned, mine also had bugs. Tons of little fungus knats, which are common in moist compost soil. They're beneficial in compost but I don't want them in my kitchen! They can't survive in dry soil so I have the open bag sitting out in the garage to dry. I haven't used it yet so I can...see moreof the reviewer's review

I love the idea the recycling! Very nice moisture holding potting soil. My mistake was in not ordering enough. Using a 12" pot to plant 3 small plants per instructions. I suggest one of these small bags per grouping.see moreof the reviewer's review
