Q: The top came unlocked from the bar that connects to the foot open/close mechanism. Is there a way to click the top back on the bar, or did it come locked and this means it's broken? I can't remember if it came put together or not.

This trash can is great because it's all the right colors of the kitchen without having to be real stainless steel and hundreds of dollars. Unfortunately, the lid is temperamental. It's top-heavy and can fall off easily, breaking the tabs that keeps it on. You have to take the lid off to get it to fully open, or if you can't stand there with your foot on the lever, thus weakening tabs, too. BUT, in contacting Hefty, they gave me another number to call. Jennifer Flynn at that hotline has sent me replacement lids TWICE! She is really fast and helpful, and the lid arrived free of charge both times in a few days. I was happy to pay for the replacement lid, but both times she sent them for free. AWESOME SERVICE!

It’s awesome that my baby can’t get into the trash in bathrooms, office, and bedrooms throughout the house. These are cute and effective and I got more after my first purchase. I also keep hay in one for my rabbits. The lock is handy to keep the baby out of the hay. I like taller trash cans for the kitchen, but this works for everything else.
