How to Use:
Apply the Kinky-Curly Knot Today (for best results) on very wet hair*. Apply custard evenly in sections to very wet hair^.
Smooth the custard into each section from roots to ends. If sections start to dry out, spray water into hair and then add custard. Thicker tighter curls need more product and loose wavy curls use less.
Use more product for very controlled curls and use less product if you want more fullness and body. Allow hair to air dry, do not touch hair while it is drying or it will start to frizz. Then dry gently scrunch out the crunch.
* If it is not wet enough your hair will dry sticky.
^ If it is not applied evenly you will get frizz.

Q: I have a tapered TWA. How would I use this product to get curl definition?

A:Â What works for me is applying the gel to my hair while soaking wet. Apply custard section by section as raking the custard through your hair with your fingers. Similar to how you'd do a wash and go. Hope this helps! This product works better for my curl definition, better than any other product I've used in the past.

When you find the right ratio between water and the product, you will get GREAT curl definition. It may take a couple of times of experimenting, but when you get it down, you won't be disappointed.

A:Â I think so. Their are stronger holds with general styling gels but those don't curl your hair. Kinky Curly has a pretty good hold that rubs off fairly easily (it doesn't stay through the night).

Every once in a while I try branching out to something else, but I always keep coming back to this one. The hold is light-medium but still keeps a nice shape with a little crunch to scrunch out. Smells great. Unlike several other curling products I've used, this one never flakes, looks product-y in the hair, or causes scalp itchiness. It may be a little bit pricier than some, but the tub lasts a good while.

I have been using this for years and tried other gels but always come back to this. Nothing else compares. The price tag seems steep, but a little goes a long way so it really lasts. What I love about it is it is buildable and light weight but strong. If I am looking for a strong hold I use a little more, like on wash day. In between washes though, I can spread the tiniest amount on damp hair for a refresh. It doesn’t weigh my hair down or cause buildup as my hair is prone to. It also really is restorative. I live in a very dry climate and it manages to maintain moisture in my hair without being crunchy or flaky. Depending on the time of year and humidity I can use more or less and get great results. When the humidity is low I can layer it over a curl cream without weighing my hair down. Its texture spreads easily so someone with a lot of hair like me can coat all my curls without using a ton.

For reference I have 3a-3b curls, medium/course and high density. Believe me I’ve tried so many different gels and this is one of my favorite. Definitely in my top three. This gel gives me strong hold which is something I look for it in a gel. It does give a cast (which I don’t mind) but can easily be scrunched out if you don’t like the cast. If you want a strong hold gel and defined curls I’d give this a try.

The gel itself was totally fine. It did what it was supposed to without being Uber crunchy or flakey. However, I only got about 5 hours in before I had to wash it out. There is a mild, pleasant scent to this gel that lingers. I am sensitive to fragrances but I actually kinda liked this one…. until my eyes started watering. It just kept getting worse until washed it out. If you’re sensitive to fragrance, look elsewhere. If not, if could be good for you.

It works and makes your hair really curly and shiny, but it is sticky and attracts lint. The hair gets built up with product fast, it’s probably best to use a tiny amount, but then you don’t have a strong hold. Sometimes I buy it and then I like it, but after a few days I start to remember why I hated it the last time. Hair oh hair!!!!
