Q: Is the amber color coated or applied on top of the glass, or is it actual amber glass (where the color goes all the way through)? Thanks!

A: I'm answering my own questiion now that I own this: the color IS painted on. It is not amber glass, it has a sprayed-on coating. So Target's answer to my question was wrong. A dead giveaway is that the bottom of the canister is clear. And you can see where the color is sprayed on lighter and heavier. They are pretty but they're not going to hold up over time.

Q: Is it food safe? I realize it's glass but I'd like to store coconut oil for oil pulling on my bathroom vanity counter, but don't want to do that if it's not safe.

This is a cute canister, but like another reviewer said, the online price does not reflect the actual price on the sticker. So save yourself a call with customer service and buy it in store if you can! :-)

I love the look of these jars. I had a small one and had to get a medium size to go with it. Yes, the amber is painted on but I do not think that it matters much unless you’re using it for something that requires less light penetration; for example, some medications and certain oils. I only want them to hold candy so I don’t care about the painted part. In all honestlyWhat I will say is that online the medium canister is priced at $9.99 but when I received it the sticker on the bottom says $5.99. I called customer service and they made an adjustment but I wanted to give a heads up. Overall, I love these jars. In all honesty, I didn’t notice the “paint”until I read the reviews and looked closely at the bottom. Indeed it is clear. But I have had the small jar for several months and never noticed.

The amber is painted on, which again leaves me disappointed with yet another Hearth and Hand item. Its pretty yes, but Im looking for amber glass, not regular glass- painted. I returned it.

I love the look of these but was very disappointed when I got all three sizes and realized Hearth and Hand with Magnolia Cheapened Out! They have a painted amber color. They are not made from actual solid amber glass. You can see that it is painted on from the bottom. The bottom is clear. There is plenty of amber brown bottle glass that is recycled...It would have been a much better option. Most likely they can not be left in water. The paint will come off.. Unfortunately I have had this happen with a unrelated item I thought was green glass. Would recommend yes if they were solid amber glass.

This is the most beautiful canister at an amazing price. I use it to store bath salts and wish I was able to buy the whole set. The large canister is quite large and similar products online were more then double this price. The lid stays put as well.

Love these in my bathroom. I use the large to hold reusable cotton swabs (the amber color is nice because it hides the mismatched contents inside). The small fits about 8-10 essential oils bottles.

Beautiful little jar. I actually used it to plant a sweet potato vine and I'm loving how the vine just hangs elegantly out of the jar! Looks vintage and chic. Would be great for q-tips or odds and ends in the bathroom.

The lid is not as loose as some of the other reviews state. This is a great affordable find if you are not trying to break the bank but still have timeless pieces in your home.

It is cute, although more brown than pictured. However, there is no rubber gasket in the lid, so the lid is very loose. I assume it's not just missing, because other reviewers have said there is nothing to hold the lid firmly in place. The lid just sits loosely on top of the jar and will certainly fall off. I wasn't looking for an air-tight seal, but this just feels cheap and not practical. Looking for a fix so I can keep the jar.

A bit disappointed. Not only is the lid loose, no rubber seal to hold it in place, but a bit chip on the lid. It was wrapped, so whoever wrapped it originally left it that way.
Don’t want to go to store to return due to it not being essential.

I love Heart & Hand with Magnolia! I bought one of these to add a touch to the three compartment woven tray to add a little storage and decor on top of my toilet. Everything is so nicely made, and for a decent price! So far, I have three items from this brand, and I can't wait to purchase more! I bought the jar to hold some cotton swaps. The lid is loose, but if placed on a sturdy surface, that should not be an issue!
