I needed to replace a lamp, bedside in a guest room, but wanted it to be able to also basically light the room itself. I am picky about lighting and wanted one with a warm, soothing light that would be focused but also disperse enough light to the room. After trying several others (and returning them) I decided to take a chance on this one. I do not find it unbalanced at all, as some reviewers have noted. In fact the base is heavy and sturdy and the arm is also sturdy but well balanced. This is important to me - that it be balanced, heavy enough and not flimsy - as I have a couple of kitties that can decide to play with or knock down things. I was planning on having to anchor it to the table with velcro tabs, but I think that is unnecessary, due to the solid and balanced design. This economical lamp seems to perfectly fit my needs. The design is clean and minimalist, with a touch of vintage - I like it a lot. It is practical, very well crafted with brushed finish, looks like it should cost more than it does. It is also large enough do the job of diffused ambient lighting. You can read by it and attractively light the area. Very pleased with this purchase. If anything, I might exchange the included LED bulb for one of slightly less wattage. But otherwise, no complaints. Oh and I like the extra outlet discretely on the backside of the base where a guest can charge their devices.
I just purchased two of these for our bedroom nightstands and they are perfect. We needed something affordable, with clean lines that would be easy to clean. We have three large dogs, so anything with a white cloth lampshade was out of the question. These lamps are well balanced and put out the right amount of light. The bulbs that came with the lamps are 60w, but I'll probably go down to a 40.
I'm not sure why other reviewers had problems... my lamp is perfect so far!
The brushed bronze (not quite matte and not quite shiny) is the perfect color (warm-toned brass, more gold than yellow/cool-toned), the height is great, and it feels sturdy. I don't move it around often (it just sits on my desk) so I haven't noticed it being "top heavy." It seems like a pretty balanced, medium weight to me. (Doesn't feel cheap but doesn't way a ton.)
You can loosen and tighten the lever in the middle to change the angle. A standard lightbulb (I used the GE Relax LED bulb) will fit inside the frosted glass shade without sticking out. I also love how there's a 2-prong power outlet in the back for charging your devices (I like that you can't see it from the front).
One thing I will mention is the packaging -- this lamp came loose in a big box. The lamp was whole and didn't require any assembly, and the only protection was some plastic air bags, paper, and a thin plastic bag over the shade. If my mail person was a little more rough, I could easily imagine the item being damaged. For this reason, I might recommend that you order the lamp for pickup in store rather than delivery, so you can check that it's undamaged first.
This would be ok, especially since it is one of very few that are 60 watt, but it desperately needs a solid shade. The frosted glass shade produces tremendous glare and REDUCES the amount of light. I bought this to replace much cheaper Target gooseneck lamps at 60 watts that I cannot find (only 40 watt ones now). The frosted glass is lovely but I need the light not diffused so it is a brighter light shining on a book I am reading or paperwork I am doing at my desk. I got a headache just now trying to read my novel while eating something at my desk. I covered the shade with a black cloth for a moment and then the light was perfect and much brighter on the book's pages.
I wish there was a rating between "yes" or "no" for recommending this. For non reading or paperwork purposes, it would be ok but terrible if you get it for what one usually gets a gooseneck desk lamp for. It is no good even for applying nail polish as the light is too diffused and weak.
The base is very wobbly also. All it would take to knock it over is a cat jumping up near it. It is an ugly lamp and belongs in a garage shop not in a lovely home. (Target has some lovely gooseneck type lamps but none are 60 watt).
Overall we are very happy with the lamp's look and performance. I am subtracting a star though because one week after getting the lamps one of the switch covers on the top came off and had to be re-glued to stay on.
I love this lamp! I have one on each side of the bed and they can be adjusted to the perfect angle. I have not experienced any of the top-heavy issues that others have commented on; they seems very stable to me. I love lamps with glass shades because they don't yellow over time.
