About this item

The 10 essays in this volume examine regional migration in Asia and its management, focusing on labor migrants in East Asia. The essays consist of country studies from the perspectives of sending and receiving countries--Japan, Korea, Singapore, China, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Vietnam--and consider legal frameworks related to labor migration, the role of civil society groups in protection policies, and how current state-led responses can be improved to provide for the human security needs of migrants. The concluding essay addresses the regional perspective on the effectiveness of regional frameworks related to the transborder implications of labor migration. The essays are a culmination of a Japan Center for International Exchange project, “Movement of People in East Asia and the Role of Civil Society,” and a symposium held in Tokyo, Japan, in June 2015. Contributors are international relations, policy studies, and other scholars from Asia. Annotation ©2016 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
