switch and bait
very upset that this product touts itself as traditional, but is made from cow's milk, not goat or sheep. I am on a strict diet that forbids cow's milk and was ignorant of this switcheroo. The back label says "mil" in small print, implying cow's milk--if it were other than that, they woiuld brag about it. If you're selling yourself as "traditional," the kind of milk should be clearly stated for those who want traditional milk sources or have medical needs.

Hello, thank you so much for taking the time to share this feedback with us. Our Athenos Crumbled Feta is made with cow’s milk to give it that mild, creamy flavor. We also offer Athenos Imported Feta, crafted in the traditional way using sheep and goat milk. Check out the product on our website and learn where you can buy it near you. https://www.athenos.com/product/chunk-import-feta-cheese/ We truly appreciate you bringing this to our attention — it helps us continue improving and making sure our products are easy to navigate and enjoy. Not real feta, has cow milk
Feta is supposed to be made with goat’s milk.

Good value for the price, mild flavor
My favorite types of feta differ depending on what I’m using them for. I like Valbreso (creamy French sheep’s milk feta in brine) for salads and other fresh applications as well as on a cheese plate. It has a fresher, less briney, milky taste. I like Bulgarian for its pungent, sharp, salty flavor. I love it in omelettes or other egg dishes. Athenos feta is much cheaper and much more easily accessible than either the of the aforementioned cheeses and I think it has a nice versatility because it’s salty and doesn’t have a gamey taste the way Bulgarian feta does. It’s less creamy than I’d like, but for the price point it’s nice on salads, in omelettes, and other savory applications.

Cracked damaged plastic, cheese exposed to dirt and bacteria
Received yet another container of this item with a large and open crack in the plastic exposing the feta cheese to air, dirt, bacteria etc. I’ve probably experienced this 6 times in the past 3 years. I was given the third degree by Target guest relations and spent 15 minutes and was transferred three times to receive a $3.99 refund for their own poor handling of products. I have had it with Target.

Hello, thank you for taking the time to share your experience — we're really sorry to hear about the repeated packaging issues with our feta and the frustration you went through trying to resolve it. While we don't manage how our products are handled in-store or during transit, we absolutely understand how disappointing and concerning it is to receive damaged packaging — especially more than once. That’s not the experience we want anyone to have with our cheese. We’d love the chance to follow up directly and learn more so we can report this back to our team. Please submit this feedback to our Customer Care team by visiting athenos.com and click the Contact Us widget in the bottom right and we’ll do our best to make things right. Thank you again for your feedback — it helps us work toward a better experience for all our customers.

So good!
If you’re a feta lover like me, Athenians Feta Cheese Crumbles are chef’s kiss. The texture is perfectly crumbly without being dry, and the flavor hits that ideal balance of salty, tangy, and creamy. It instantly elevates everything — from salads and grain bowls to omelets and pasta dishes. I love how convenient the crumbles are too — no mess, no slicing, just pop it open and sprinkle away. It’s especially great for quick meals or when you're hosting and want to make something look (and taste) fancy with minimal effort. Pro tip: Try tossing it on roasted veggies or mixing into watermelon for that classic sweet-salty combo. You’ll be obsessed. Definitely a staple in my fridge from now on!

Why cellulose powder
I just want to say I love the product it's very well made. Bit when looking at the ingredients I noticed they use powdered cellulose as there anti caking agent instead of potato starch. Not sure why.
1 reply from Athenos team - 10 months ago
Hello! Wonderful to hear and great question. We use the powdered cellulose over the potato starch due to the cellulose having a better ability to absorb moisture without significantly altering the taste or texture of the cheese, while potato starch can sometimes affect the browning characteristics and overall mouthfeel. Thank you for your positive feedback and for being a fan, Chris!

Athenos Feta Cheese
The cheese is great for salads and other foods to add a light cheese flavor to the mix. Would recommend, however, be aware that the Target store shelf price is lower than the register price, and will need staff to manually update it when checking out.

This is not actually feta cheese
This company uses cow’s milk, but feta is supposed to be made with sheep’s milk. I have literally never seen feta made with cow milk before my husband (understandably) bought this thinking it was safe. Consider changing the label to “feta-style” or something, or make it abundantly clear on the label that it’s made with cow dairy.

bad.
If you are greek, you know that this is really bad feta. Too salty and doesn't have that feta taste to it. I recommend you use the brand "EPRIOS" has the best feta that you also also buy in the usa and that doesn't taste so bad I throw up from it. do better.
