The Audio Technica ATH-M50x are a pretty good headphone. I used these to mix releases for years (before that the regular ATH-M50). The ATH-M50x sound pretty flat with good bass response and flat frequency response throughout. I have noticed that with all ATH-M50 models eventually they somewhat die. By this I mean there begins to be a rattling distortion in one and I assume eventually both ears. At low volumes this isn’t much of an issue but some frequencies even at moderate levels seem to make these headphones not perform as they did new. These are very comfortable and I didn’t find myself getting ear fatigue or discomfort from prolonged use. I would probably buy these again when I start booking DJ gigs again. But for now I’m doing all my mixing on Shure se215 wired earbuds. I know that sounds crazy to do serious mixing on earbuds but the se215s are the best sounding headphone (earbud) I’ve ever heard with detailed flat bass and crystal clean frequency response. The ATH-M50s have a good sound but aren’t as durable as they should be.
Great headset for gaming, lifespan of the material lacks

I've had this headset for almost 5 years. Sound quality for the price is great. I use this headset on my gaming desktop to play mostly shooter games and MMORPG's. The headset is comfortable and light enough to wear for hours at a time. My only issue with the headset is the lifespan of the material used on the headband and ear cups. Over time I've noticed that the material has started to flake off and more recently has started to come off with normal use more frequently. An update to this headset would be nice. A better material would make this headset last much longer and make this headset a 5 star rating all around.
Appreciate it even more after a few years

Had this headphone for 5 years now. I bought and returned a few other bluetooth headphones, none of them even compared to this one's value and most importantly, sound quality. Yes it's a bit heavier (than wireless) and with wire, but I'd rather deal with the wire than a lesser quality sound. Oh, and I'm a musician, so yes, sound quality for me is the priority.

I am a 10 year old DJ that performs almost every weekend. These were a Christmas gift the year I went PRO. I travel everyehere whith these and have never let me down. I bought a second set for my studio so I always have my performance set (white) in my bag to hit the road. Great sound and awesome performance. I have had several other brands (Sony, JVC, Pioneer, Beats) and nothing comes close.

Using this headphone for listening and editing of music. Great for gaming as well. Well balance sound using Presonus AudioBox USB 96. Not heavy on any of the ranges. Weight wise, slightly on the heavy side, could be I haven't used the headphones in a long time. Works real well when listening to jazz and blues. The variety of cables makes the headphones very useful in various environment. My rating is based on a very short time of usage. It may change after some time. The headphones can not define the whole spectrum from the music of " also sprach zarathutra" The soundtracks from Blade Runner 1994 (Vangelis) is another good reference to try headphones to. (The 5.1 Kef and Denon System from 2005) passed several of these test well above.
I would buy Audio-technica product again.

I work in multimedia video editing. I used an ATH-M50 for many years and only recently replaced it with an ATH-M50x. It's worth every penny. Very comfortable to wear for long periods, even with my eyeglasses on - and this really matters when I have them on for 8+ hours straight. Superior sound quality that not only lets me hear what I'm working on clearly, but blocks out most unwanted noise in my office. (I can't hear people standing right next to me talking while wearing them -- so I can focus on my work.) I intend to continue buying and recommending Audio-Technica headphones for life!

Love the sound. Good value for the cost. Durability of ear cushions is my only issue. I'd give the product 5 stars otherwise.

Love absolutely everything about these headphones, with only one drawback. I haven't had my ATH-M50X set all that long and the outer part of the ear cushion is starting to disintegrate. Too bad they aren't made with genuine leather, they'd last a lot longer.

I have had these headphones for 6 years now. I ordered them because I wanted something on the frequency middle ground that could give me acceptable bass without losing mid-high range frequencies because my musical tastes vary and I didn't want to be limited in listening to new music. The ATH-M50xs have never failed me in any way. The drivers have always been reliable, even through travel and extensive use at times amounting to 8+ hours per day. Likewise, the headband, swiveling ear-cup mounts, and none of the cables have ever failed at any time. Even now, they work as they always have. They are not finicky nor do they need special care and when I use them I get enough sound isolation to enjoy what I am listening to without interference but I am also not completely shut-out from the world. The sound is as clear today as it ever was and I still pick up new sounds when I listen to a song for the first time with them. These are simple, comfortable, and reliable headphones that have served me well at home and on the road. If you're in the market for a solid pair of headphones for work or a budget audiophile set-up I recommend them, for whatever that's worth from a random guy on the internet.

Like most folks, my ears are a bit uneven; while these headphones generally adjust well for that, at times my right ear gets pinched within the cup (sometimes above, sometimes below) and I have to readjust for optimum comfort. If I neglect to, the affected ear is sore after about 20 minutes. However, that is my only complaint about these headphones; otherwise, they are excellent, well made, have rich sound, and I do recommend them. I love the three different cords and the leather bag that comes with them.

Great sound and no tangle cord but pieces of the earmuff covering are falling off all over my shirt and inside my ears after using them. I used to use Sony but had problems with the cords breaking inside and only 1 earmuff would work, so I switched to Audio Technica and I'm not sure I would buy again. I got them as a Xmas gift a few years ago as I do a lot of at home mixing.
For this price point there is NO competition.

I use these cans for 2-5 hours at a time in an FM radio studio. They never hurt my ears because of excellent ear pads. If I accidentally have the volume up all the way, the drivers never have a problem afterwards. I accidentally drop these cans all the time, and never any problems or breakage. The sound quality is exactly what your ears WANT to hear, rather than laboratory specs being the first consideration. That is why they sound so good to most ears, for ANY genre of music. They're perfect in the studio, perfect at home, or outside. Excellent noise isolation. There just aren't ANY negatives with these cans, and I've enjoyed them for over a decade (older ATH-M50, and I also have a pair of the new ATH-M50x). Audio Techica serviced them (older cans) about 4 years ago with new swivel driver enclosures, new ear pads, new hinges, and a new cable. This work was performed quickly and expertly for a shockingly low fee. Techs in the repair dept. are very friendly and helpful, and WANT you to continue enjoying your cans. You just can't go wrong choosing these cans. They are my favorites, even over much more expensive competitors. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
