Q: Can I take it to El Salvador by plane

submitted by Leonor - 5 years ago
  • A: Probably too late for the original poster, but hopefully this is useful to future inquiries. Helium is a non-flammable compressed gas, and as such is categorized as a Division 2.2 hazardous material in the United States and Division 2.2 dangerous good in El Salvador. Such articles can be offered as cargo on aircraft, but cannot be brought on board by passengers nor offered in checked baggage. There are certain exceptions (see 49 CFR 175.10) but helium for balloons is not among those exceptions.

submitted byHazmat Lawyer - 3 years ago
  • A: Although the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) does not specify helium tanks, it refers to campers' propane tanks, et al., as follows: "Empty propane or gas cylinders are allowed in checked or carry-on bags as long as our officers can see inside." In other words, you would have to remove the valve and regulator/inflator, which, of course, would mean that the helium would escape! So, the answer would seem to be, "You cannot take this or any other kind of closed cylinder on board."

submitted byskaizun - 5 years ago
  • A: You should probably contact the airlines with this question.

Q: How many 12" balloon can the 8.9 cu ft helium kit can fill? I have about 60 12" balloon.

submitted by davida - 3 years ago
  • A: Today I was able to fill 20 of the 50 12" balloons I have

submitted byMeowgirl - 3 years ago
  • A: Hello, and thank you for your question. Our standard tank is designed to fill 30 nine-inch balloons, or 16 eleven-inch or mylar balloons. Our Jumbo tank is designed to fill 50, nine-inch balloons or 27, eleven-inch or mylar balloons. Q: Is this tank refillable? IF I run out of helium, am I able to refill the tank?

submitted by Cheryl - 5 years ago
  • A: No it’s not refillable. After you ran out of helium all you can do is to recycle it. (What a waste. I know)

submitted byHfdallas - 5 years ago
  • A: No it is not refillable

    submitted byBs917 - 5 years ago

Q: Where can it be disposed of as it is a gas ? as I believe it cant be thrown into the rubbish?

submitted by New Parent - 5 years ago
  • A: The instructions say to remove all air from the tank, first, using the nozzle as if you were blowing up additional balloons (I suggest you do this in a well-ventilated area, as direct exposure to helium is considered a potential health threat), then, punch a hole in the unit where specified (it's a ring near the top of the unit), then circle the punctured rink with a permanent marker and write the word "EMPTY" above it. You may NOT be able to dispose of it through your regular trash/recyclable pick-ups, so you may be forced to bring it to a local metal recycler/salvager/junk yard, who MAY pay you for whatever the metal (steel) is worth. Or call your local trash/recycle yard to see if they'll accept a delivery (n.b., some will accept such for free, but some may charge you for the privilege).

submitted byskaizun - 5 years ago
  • A: There are instructions on how to recycle it. There’s a spot to puncture a hole with a hammer and screwdriver then you use a permanent marker to indicate that it’s been emptied. It’s not that difficult.

    submitted bymjl411 - 5 years ago

Q: Is ther air mixed with the helium?

submitted by Mirandco24 - 6 years ago
  • A: Yes, the tank says (in Spanish) that it is a mix of air and not less than 80% helium.

submitted bynetnuevo - 6 years ago
  • A: No I don't believe so

submitted byAmeljoog - 6 years ago

Q: is your standard tank helium refiilable?

submitted by yeebees - 2 months ago
  • A: Thank you for being a Balloon Time customer! Balloon Time tanks are not designed to be refilled. This provides the convenience of being lightweight and easy to handle. Please do not attempt to refill and refer to warnings here and on the tank and carton. Attempting to refill can cause injury or death.

Filled 18 balloons before it ran out. Believe the reviews that say it doesn’t fill as many as it advertises.

Each Balloon Time tank has approximately 15% more capacity than what is needed to fill the indicated number of balloons when used properly. However, other factors may alter the total amount of balloons inflated, such as using balloons other than those supplied in a kit or using larger balloons. In addition, always ensure you have a good seal between the nozzle and balloon neck so no helium escapes while inflating, and tightly close the valve when storing your tank to prevent helium leakage.

I would give this zero stars if it was possible. I bought this tank, brought it home and blew up the Mylar balloons for my sons party and they immediately didn’t float. BEYOND frustrated with a total waste of money. Not only the tank was a waste of money, but now the expensive pirate balloons are worthless too because they all fall to the ground. 😤

I actually bought two of these for a party. I couldn’t get it to work at all! I’ve had many people stronger than I try to turn it & open, but not one person has been able to even get them open to see if they work! Unfortunately got very sick after & missed the return window, so out a lot of money… I personally wouldn’t recommend it, bc I had two not work!

Hello and thank you for your comment. We apologize to hear about your experience with your helium tank. The handwheel is mechanically tightened in order to prevent leaks and sometimes it’s necessary to use some additional torque to open it the first time. First, try a rubber jar opener or a wadded-up dishtowel to help grasp the valve and turn it. You can also use a wrench to open the valve. So we can learn more about your experience and better assist you, please email us directly at BalloonTime@WorthingtonIndustries.com.

I’m so glad and fortunate Target sells these helium tanks. I buy them for the birthday party’s we have and they cover all the balloons that I do. It’s easy and I can drive up and grab one and it comes with a bag of assorted colored balloons and string. I just drop the tanks off at the recycling center after use.

The handles on the stop of the tank get in the way of holding the balloons and so some of the helium escapes at times while you are filling it. You have to hold the balloon in a certain position and have small hands to do so. People with big hands may not be as successful. Tha handles should be further apart. I woudl still recommend in a pinch, still cheaper than paying for store to fill for you.

Just like you, I read the reviews. When they said their balloons didn’t float I thought, “I’ve used balloon time before and it worked great! Those other people must have done something wrong. It clearly says 2-3 days for foil, the must have filled their balloons too early.” Nope. I was wrong. I waited until the night before my kid’s birthday, just like the package said (12 hours before the party, golden for a foil balloon!). I opened the green valve, just like the package said. I inflated the foil number balloon to celebrate his birthday with, one of several this tank should work for. And then… a full balloon! But one that limply sits on its side on the floor, instead of floating in the air. It’s now the night before the party and there’s no place open to get some proper helium. Thanks Balloon Time!
