Bangladeshi Migration to Singapore : A Process-oriented Approach to Labour Migration (Hardcover)
About this item
This book approaches the field of international migration in the context of Southeast Asia with a focus on Singapore. It adopts a relatively new methodological approach to international migration of labour by linking different phases that migrants undergo in the migration process and by combining migrants in host country with their families in origin countries. This is achieved through identifying and addressing six key spheres of international migration: (i) migration policy, (ii) migration decision-making (iii) recruitment, (iv) migrants’ socio-economic experiences on foreign soil, (v) remittance process, and finally, (vi) emigration and empowerment at the migrant households. Combining original empirical research with existing literature on migration of labor in the region, it sheds light on Bangladeshi migrant group in the migration process and provides a holistic understanding of international migration of labor in the context of Singapore.?
