Worrisome......

If you've been collecting Barbies for awhile you are familiar with other collections, such as the Faraway Forest, as one example, the Elf, the Water Sprite, even the Lady of the White Woods (the one I was the least excited about) had the most amazing details and unique qualities. Every doll in this Gold Label collection was exquisite in my opinion. The clothing, the accessories, even the skin coloring and face painting. Now this Mythical Muse Series, also a Gold Label collection which is supposed to be their BEST, I admit I really liked Unicorn but I was less impressed with the second doll the Enchanted Mermaid, though still worth buying with cool details, but this final edition, this Dragon Empress doll, confuses and scares me a bit. This is a GOLD LABEL doll, expensive in the terms of purchasing a plastic Barbie, what makes it worth it are the details. This doll is so underwhelming! She has very few details and the ones she does have such as the wrapping dragon bracelet and shoes, look like incredibly cheap plastic. But the wings were the most disappointing! Where are the scales? Where is any detail, besides a simple two-tone paint job? She is an odd, sick greenish pale color, nothing fiery or reptilian like, the two different directions a dragon doll could go. This was a MISSED OPPORTUNITY and a perfect chance to add a doll of color to the collection with a GORGEOUS BRONZE skin tone! Now that would have been amazing! Even her headpiece looks like it doesn't fit on her head, it sits awkward and I really cannot tell what it is supposed to look like. So, needless to say I am terribly sad about her. She should have been the final MASTERPIECE of the collection. Can you imagine the kind of details that could have been on a DRAGON EMPRESS? The name seems a little like a cruel joke. This looks like a child play quality doll but that wouldn't work either as she is not moveable! Even the Black Label (which is supposed to be not as high of a level as Gold) Dias de Muertos Barbie BLOWS THIS GOLD LABEL DOLL AWAY. Now I am left in a quandary. I want to complete my collection as she is the last doll, but I don't think she is worth the money. Do I want to reward poor workmanship and lack luster creativity? I don't want to encourage this in the future? I strongly feel Mattel should honor all of us collectors and REDO this doll. It was a SERIOUS lost opportunity to build on the momentum they had going with the new surge in doll collecting. I am afraid this might stop the excitement in its tracks!! I HATE WRITING THIS, but I have to be true to others interested in this doll! I want to assure new buyers there are others, that are far better.

I love this barbie! I think she is wonderful. I love her clothes and the awesome helmet. Her wings are very cool- ya the are plastic but beautiful- I’m very happy to add her as the 3rd in the collection! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I received this doll today. The fantasy barbies are my favourite type, so was really looking forward to this one. Overall it is very nice. Love the dragon theme and I really like the colouring of this whole series, with the pastel colours and the pale/ethereal fantasy look. The face, wings, breastplate and head piece are quite nice too. Even the shoes and arm band are nice enough, they just seem a bit unfinished and might look better with some sort of glossy topcoat to look more like scales. The only thing I dont like is the skirt material as it seems lower quality than the rest of the doll and series. Maybe it would look better if the scales had covered the whole skirt. (I havent deboxed it but looks like the scales might cover more of the back of the skirt.) My particular doll also has some manufacturing defects in the body (cracks/rough edges) but hopefully I can exchange it for one without damage. Overall happy with the purchase.

We barbies collectors were excited that the next muse muse was going to be a dragon. I never been so disappointed looking at her now. First she looks Anemic or is it just my doll. The plastic wings and head set is cheap plastic you would find in the dollar store. Did you fire the original concept designers well add the designers for this fiasco too. You have cheapen the entire set and I feel along with others here short changed and hoodwinked [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

My daughter and I are very disappointed in this one. We have the unicorn and mermaid and it does not compare to their beauty! We will not be buying this one. It saddens me just looking at it. It looks cheap and like they rushed into creating it.

I just received her today and she's so blah. Where is the details in her?? I got her to customize her since I was disappointed from the moment they unvailed her stock photos. For a gold label barbie she isn't worth it, there's no Glam to her, her quality looks cheap. My boyfriend who's always so excited to see my new dolls was not impressed with her at all. I also call for a redo...there's soooo many missed opportunities with her. Oh well, wish me luck on having to customize my first collectible barbie, can't be any worse than this.

I just got my Dragon Empress Barbie in the Mail and She is truly Stunning! The stock photos do not give her justice. She has these semi translucent shiny wings that are really wild in sunlight! She also has a Dragon spine down the back of her bodice and head piece! She is definitely for the adult collector and not meant to be played with in my view. Not very movable and I would be afraid the wings could break at the base. I collect a lot of the fantasy barbies and this one is definitely at the top of the list! Thank You Mattel!! Keep it up!!!
