A: Hi L - Thanks for checking out this Beech Wood Solid Spoon from Made By Design. The spoon is made out of unfinished beechwood. There is no added sealer or finish. I hope this helps! - Vanessa
submitted byVanessa - 4 years agoTarget staff supportA: I've purchased 4 of these beechwood spoons and I can't tell if the wood is sealed with anything (chemicals etc;) they seem to be naked of any foreign 'stuff' I've even olive oiled them because they are very dry feeling, and I plan to purchase more to share with all of my children, one of the best wooden spoons I've ever had!

What they don’t show you is on the back it says, “Made By Design” with a Target symbol. It’s in a prominent place. Not my taste, unfortunately.

I have used several wooden spatulas from different companies. Most of them are not built to last. They are too thin or start breaking very soon. This one on the other hand is thick and sturdy and hasn't given me any issues yet. At this price, it's a steal

I purchased one and it split within a couple of months. I then purchased a replacement and it split within a couple of weeks. I season all of my wooden boards and utensils once a month, this one didn't even last one month. So disappointed.

I’m not absolutely in love with it, but I do like that it is a safer option to cook with. It has stained slightly. It’s not a deep spoon, so sometimes food will fall out of the side of the pan before I can fully scoop the food out with this spoon.

These are untreated so you'll need to season them. So far, despite seasoning with food grade mineral oil, they have split which gives places for bacteria to get trapped. Bamboo spoons are a better option IMO.

I bought this item solely for decoration as other reviewers have had issues with the spoon cracking. If your looking for a decorative spoon at a reasonable price you cannot go wrong with this one. For functional use, find another wooden spoon
