The reviews here are hilarious. Half say it's the best thing ever, half say they'd rather eat dog food. Come on. Until 10 years ago I was a rabid meat eater. Rare filet mignon, slow smoked pork, buffalo wings, you name it I loved it. And I took great steps in finding the best of the best in terms of quality and taste. You wouldn't catch me with a big mac for anything. I'd hand grind my own beef and make patties myself. So I had pretty high standards. As I became a vegetarian all of those things went out the window. Veggie burgers were mush. "Ground beef" was dry and only edible if you piled it with sauce or seasoning. "Chicken" was a joke. Pulled pork? Uh, how about a jackfruit! Not much of a substitute. Over time you just learn to deal with, frankly, stuff that doesn't taste nearly as good. I can't tell you how many times in 10 years my wife or I have said "I could really go for a real burger right now" and then groaned. So along comes Beyond Beef. A product that actually allows you to cook with it like regular ground beef. We've made burgers (great) and Italian meatballs (very good) and have been genuinely loving this product. Yes, it's quite expensive. But no, there really is nothing else like it at this point in time. And for the record, I've fed it to my parents who not only are not vegetarians but who have resented my becoming one for the last decade and they admit, it's pretty good. I think that's about the most fair assessment I can give. If you are still willing to eat meat, is this going to be the best thing you've ever tasted? No. Is it going to be the worst? Also, no. If you don't eat meat, is this a revolutionary addition to your ingredient list? YES.
