William Davis was one of the most important premiers in Canadian history. The longest-serving premier of Ontario in the twentieth century, he won four elections and carried on a Tory dynasty in Ontario politics that would last a total of forty-two years. But he was also an indispensable ally of Pierre Trudeau in the patriation of the Constitution, with its entrenched Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Before he became premier, Davis was perhaps the most important education minister in Ontario history, presiding over the creation of of the community college system. As premier, he went on to lead Ontario through buoyant and recessionary economic times, leaving a legacy Ontarians continue to enjoy. Now 85, Davis still lives on Main Street in his beloved Brampton.
