Only way to get more string to come out is to take it apart and manually do it.

A "Might have been" great product

This unit had the potential for being a really great addition to my lawn care equipment. The 60v lithium battery provided plenty of power and run time, change over from trimmer to edger was a breeze and the trim line lasted well. However, I have come to looking at trimming the lawn with this tool as an invitation to a bad time. The mechanism for feeding the line during trimming is worthless and has been since day one! Currently to feed out line I have to open the string head, manually extend the line and then reassemble the head to continue work. This is not a good time. I have other B&D products and I cannot believe B&D would put a mechanism like this on the market.

Grass wraps around the shaft and you have to take it apart...if you can get it apart. Don't bother with taking to get it serviced because it will just happen again. Less than a year old and I had to throw it away.

Have had this piece of junk 2 weeks. Can not even find a replacement cord spool. Not even the correct one on this web site. I need a new spool because the one on the trimmer came apart.

As everyone before me, same issue with grass getting on a drive shaft and stopping the trimmer. Picked out most of it, worked 2 minutes and melted some plastic that in between housing and spool. No manual, no way to fix it at home. Not a tool you want to own.
