About the Author
MONICA SWANSON and her husband, Dave (a hospital physician), are raising four sons on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. They have graduated one son, and homeschool the other three, and they spend much of their free time supporting their sons' competitive surfing and enjoying all that Hawaii has to offer. Get your favorite highlighter ready- this book is fabulous. I related so much as a boy mom, and I think all parents or people who have children in their lives would benefit from reading this book. I love the layout of the book and find the stories and messages so relatable.Bonus, there are printables too!

As a mom of 3 boys, this book is just what I needed! I love Monica's honesty and how I could relate to her stories. It's always good to know that as a mom of young boys, that I'm not alone in my parenting worries/troubles. Monica's use of scripture and faithfulness to God was very encouraging! This will definitely be a book that I read over and over again. There is so much wisdom to be gained and I feel that even my husband would benefit from reading this book!

Boy Mom entered my life at the perfect time! I am a mom of 4, and the youngest 3 are boys. My oldest son is in the tween years with the youngest still a toddler. Parenting is hard work, yet parenting intentionally is what I strive for and is something Monica models so well. Monica has traveled this challenging road of raising boys without much to reference and glean advice from in the early years of her journey. Yet, she has navigated these waters for 18+ years and has shared with the boy moms of the world how she has paved her own way to raising happy, responsible, trustworthy, compassionate boys through her blog, podcast and this must have book for all boy moms! She covers topics such as relationships, integrity, work ethic, social media, faith, character, physical and emotional health, boundaries, discipline, money management and so much more! She shares her own advice, struggles, wisdom and research on these topics throughout the pages of this amazing book. I love that Monica leaves us with questions to reflect on and answer at the end of each chapter so that we can determine what areas we need to focus on and how to apply what she's shared to raising our own boys. I also love that Monica shares many resources at the end of each chapter as well. I will be printing out a number of them (like the conversation starters, ways to make your son feel loved, etc.) . This is a must read book for all boy moms and is one that I am sure to be referring to often for many years to come! I am gifting this book to several boy mom friends too!

Boy Mom is an encouraging, funny, practical book full of wisdom on raising our crazy, little sons into godly, responsible men! I loved the mix of big picture principles and specific, practical examples in each area that Monica covered. She included a lot of Scripture throughout the book, which was great. I also loved how she included stories about each of her sons and how the principles she covers applies to their different personalities. Definitely would recommend this book to moms of boys, and several chapters are applicable to moms, period.

Every mom of boys needs to read this book! Swanson does a phenomenal job of giving readers a well-rounded look at raising sons to be men of character. Each chapter looks at a different area affecting our boys, and provides faith-based suggestions for guiding them through the challenges that may arise. Topics covered include boundaries, discipline, character, technology, health, relationships and work...to name a few. At the end of each chapter, she has a "Make it Personal" section where she poses questions that help us to apply the information to our own sons. Some chapters also include links to resources related to the material. I found both to be very helpful!
I appreciate the author's examples from her own parenting journey. Many books simply give you an idea and move on; she shares with us what those concepts looked like in her own family. She backs up her ideas with scripture, which I appreciate. She is very honest about the challenges they faced, not trying to appear as though her family is perfect examples.
As a boy mom, I have been looking for a book that can provide some insights into the hearts of my sons. She provided a non-judgmental, yet very helpful, list of ways to raise godly gentleman. I would definitely recommend this book.

Wow! This is an exceptional book. Monica challenges and encourages you to be a better mom all while coming across as if you’re just having coffee with one of your best friends. Point after point is immediately practical, challenging me to make some small adjustments in my parenting right away, and I know I’ll be referring back to these points often. But what was even more valuable was how often as I read I found myself turning to prayer – both prayers of repentance and renewal for myself, and prayers for my boys. And that’s where the books real strength lies, because of its foundation on Biblical truths and faith in Jesus, it offers HOPE. Not just wishful thinking for our boys’ future, but the kind of real, solid HOPE we can place our confidence in, that our loving God has got this. And who doesn’t need that reminder in the ups and downs of being a boy mom.

I absolutely loved reading boy mom. This is the first book I have found that addresses the needs of boys from preschool through the teen years. I've found as my son hit the teenage years it was hard to find authors that connected to the stage where I was trying to grow with my son as so many books are focused on the younger years. Monica addresses all life areas from relationships, to work ethic, to character, to technology. What I love the most is that the entire book is girded with the truth of the importance of a relationship with Christ and how that is the foundation of everything and yet she also doesn't force Christianity on her readers and even those that aren't Christians can gain a lot from the book. She's candid in sharing her personal expeiences and you almost feel like you know the Swansons. There are so many pages I bookmarked to go back to and key lessons and tools I am going to apply to raising my teenage son.

Monica covers every topic that we boymoms worry about and shares her experiences and wisdom in such a humble & wise way— it’s like having a conversation with your big sister. I love the resources she shares at the end of each chapter and the personal questions so that you have time to think and really apply what you’ve read in each chapter. Such a relevant & important book, especially in this day & age where our culture is so “confused” about gender— Monica helps makes it practical and feel possible to be able to raise our boys into REAL men!

As a mama to three boys 4 and under, this book encouraged me and challenged me in so many ways. This is now a well highlighted book as there was just so much good wisdom in it. I loved the challenge of parenting with intentionality and I know I am a better mom for reading this. My husband has also noticed a difference in our home and kids since I started implementing some of what I learned in this book.
I love that she addresses the needs of different age groups as well as different subjects each will face. I also loved that she had a ton of additional resources to check out in addition to the text to dive deeper. Each chapter also included several discussion and reflection questions that took it deeper. I appreciated how often she referred back to their belief in Jesus and how evident it was she gave all the credit to him.
The only downside with this book would be that not all families would be able to make some of the sacrifices or investments encouraged due to financial or situational constraints. However, the author does state at the beginning not all may be applicable.

As a mom of two young boys, I’m so excited to read this book! Monica uses her experience of raising her own four boys to help us other boy moms coming up behind her with practical tips covering a wide variety of topics. My biggest takeaways were to be my child’s safe place now when they are young and to raise my boys with my values, not society’s values.

This was a quick and highly practical read! I especially loved the questions at the end of each chapter (would make this an easy small group or book club read) and the practical resources like the "Appropriate Life Skills by Age" that are included. I know this is a resource I will reach for again and again as I raise my 3 boys.

I have read a ton of boy books, being a boy mom of 3 little guys. And this one is just awesome and full of love! Very practical and encouraging information. One of my favorite parts is at the end of chapter are questions, to help you hone in our how to apply what you've read to your child specifically. As well as resources for you (list of definitions to teach with examples, bible verses on topic, etc.) Overall, great read for any boy mom looking to raise a Godly son! Thanks for a painting a picture of what can be, combined with practical advice on getting there!

This book was a great, amazing, thorough and relatable book for all mom's, but especially of boys. It's been a great reminder of things I've known, but giving more tools in my toolbox for parenting each unique kiddo in my family. Monica is relatable - she isn't perfect, but she's got some great advice and ideas. Recommend for all mom's, not just mom's of boys!

Oh my goodness! I’ve been waiting for a book like this, written from a mom’s perspective, for years! I’ve followed Monica’s blog for years and her advice concerning raising boys is solid. I really appreciate how she addresses the most relevant topics facing our young men today, including dating, technology, and boundaries with such intentionality. This is a must read for anyone who’s in a position of being responsible for influencing boys, including parents, grandparents, and teachers!
I did receive this book free, but that had no influence on my rating or review. It truly is a great book!

Just days into beginning this book, my relationship with my eight-year-old son was already improving. After finishing the book, I can honestly say I got so much out of it and I want to start it over immediately. From big picture parenting ideas about long-term goals for our sons and how to spiritually shepherd them to everyday tips on how to manage chores and feed your boys, this book is jam packed with goodness. I can’t recommend it more to parents of boys. It truly is a guidebook, and her online resources are also golden!

Swanson has four boys, one just off to college down to one in elementary school. My son is a middle schooler and I appreciate being able to glean from a mom who has gone before me.

Loved reading this book, looking forward to reading it again. It was very engaging, interesting and easy to read. Practical and very helpful advice covering many subjects but still in depth on each topic. Monica's approach was from a biblical standpoint but I believe any boymom could glean lots of wisdom from this book. I loved all the resources to blog posts, websites, other books quoted and cited, podcasts, etc. I feel like this book is a wealth of information and I could keep using it as a resource for many years. I have read MANY books about raising boys (as a mom of 6 of them!) and I would highly recommend reading this one to any of my friends. (Also...even though it's for "moms" I really think that a dad could really benefit from reading it to get on the same page as his wife and parent together their boys wisely!)
