There tends to be a big jump inbetween pant sizes 8 and 10/12. My son is too big for an 8 but too small for most 10/12s. According to other reviews, there is also a large differential in the sizing on this item - however, my son happens to fit the 8/10 size in Champion wear right now, and it's been a great inbetween size for us. My son also has a small waist and I've found that Champion brand tends to fit a slimmer child better than other name brands (my son also hates pants that tie). On sale, these pants are quite affordable, and the quality will certainly last long enough to bridge us to a true 10/12 size.
I bought these at the store last weekend. I was excited by the reasonable price and my son liked them. He's 12 and tall and skinny, so it's hard to find him sweatpants, but he was able to tighten these due to the drawstring inside. He wore them twice this week to school and the 2nd time he fell and a hole ripped into the knee. I guess that's why they were so cheap. :( I'm very disappointed that they didn't even last one week. Now he's just going to have to wear them with a hole in them. I should have only bought the Cat & Jack brand, as I think they would have been replaced?
We've been buying these the last couple of years as the quality is good and my son loves them but as another review claimed- the size gap between the S and the M is HUGE! He grew out of the small but probably won't fit into the M for another year or so. The size gap doesn't make sense even when you look at the size chart.
My son loves these pants. They are lightweight, and comfortable. They do snag. They do not wear as well as fleece pants. They are a decent option for the time between shorts and heavier pants. The colors are easy to match with shirts.
