About the Book

For women who love God but have a love/hate relationship with their bodies, join Jess Connolly to discover a bold new way to rest in God's workmanship and heal the broken beliefs that have held you back from your fullest life.

Book Synopsis

You were made for more than a love/hate relationship with your body.

It's one thing to know in your head that you were created in the image of God. Yet it's quite another to experience this belief in your body, against the cultural ideals of a woman's worth. And between the two lies a world of frustration, disappointment, and the shame of somehow feeling both too much and never enough in your body.

Jess Connolly is a bestselling author, sought-after speaker, and trusted Bible teacher who knows this inner conflict all too well, and this book details her journey--and yours--of setting out to discover how to break free from the broken beliefs we all hold about our bodies that hold us back from our fullest life.

The truest thing about you is that you are made and loved by God. And the truest thing about Him is that He cannot make bad things. This book will help you believe it with your whole self, as Jess guides you through an eye-opening, empowering process of:

  • Renaming what the world has labeled as less-than
  • Resting in God's workmanship
  • Experiencing restoration where there has been injury
  • And becoming a change agent in partnering with God to bring revival to a generation of women

Far from a superficial issue, self-image is a spiritual issue, because God has named your body good from the beginning. Whether your struggle is with eating and exercise habits, stress or trauma, infertility or injury, this book makes space for you to experience God meeting you in this tender place, and ring His freedom bell over your body in a whole new way.

As a health and wellness coach, I'm always looking for resources to equip my clients. The beauty of Jess's work is that it gets to the heart of the problem: shame. I particularly enjoy the format of the book with questions highlighted throughout the chapters. I have even used some in my coaching conversations. Thank you! I can easily see this being used in a book club or group coaching format. What a lovely tool, so timely to the needs of today.

FREEDOM

I’m a 47 year old mother of 14. I have tried every diet out there, I regularly exercise, eat well, and take my vitamins. I read my Bible everyday. And until this book I shamed myself everyday for my body shape/size. NO MORE! I tossed the scale and while I will continue to eat well/exercise and take μ vitamins I will never talk to myself that way again! I am made in the image of God and my body is good! If you have struggled like I have or know someone who has/is struggling please pick up a copy of this book.

Your body is not an object or a project.

"Your body is not an object or a project." This book arrived at the perfect time. Postpartum after our third baby, it was comforting to read so much truth. The stories of women living with things like infertility, autoimmune diseases, disability, racism and more, serve as a reminder that we need to continue to breakthrough the cultural molds that tell us we need to be better, to be more, in order to be accepted or loved. This is a powerful read, and I hope every women begins to internalize the truth that her body is good.

Breaking Free from Body Shame is the fire of revival that us women of God NEED. With 97% of us struggling with body image the time is now to embrace freedom in Christ and to break free from this generational bondage. As a registered dietitian I would recommend this book to my clients, friends, and family. Together we can positively change the narrative around our bodies with TRUTH. Your body is good. You are made in the image of God. Jess has created a wonderful tool in this book and I cannot recommend it enough.
