I use this water bottle daily and love that it keeps my water cold! However, the cap and nozzle are hard to clean, and then reassemble. I would like to purchase a replacement nozzle as the seal has ripped and the bottle is no good, but have been unable to find one. Many other bottles allow you to replace the nozzle/straw/cap!
I've used the Camelbak podium chill for Ironman races. The old version was as perfect as can be. When I saw that they changed the bottle, I purchased the coveted black version. Horrible difference! Bottle was super had to hold while riding and had a difficult time working with it. Seems like a step backwards for this product. Bring the old bottle back!
On/off valve is too tight on every bottle I’ve seen, often requiring two hands to open. That makes it hard to open your second bottle on a ride. And trying to clean the valve makes it worse. The older design was flawed in that it was hard to clean at all; this one is easier to clean in parts - although some small parts apparently can’t be cleaned at all - but the basic functionality of the top is worse. And I tried asking on the company site for help loosening the twist tops and got no answer.
I bought the bottle because of advertised ease of cleaning. However, there is no information on how to remove the valve and best way to keep it clean. I've had camelback bottles before and the valves become moldy after some use. They are virtually impossible to keep clean and must be discarded. So, the promise of the new bottle is attractive only if Camelbak would share the secret of how to properly clean them
The bottle definitely keeps water colder longer than a standard bottle with no insulation. Will it keep ice for hours? No, it won't, but it isn't designed to function like this. It's not a vacuum insulated bottle. They advertise twice as long as a standard bottle and I'd say that's about right. What I like about it the most is that it seals. On long rides, I mix powder with my water. I have never had a standard water bottle that didn't seep at least a little. The seepage causes the bottle to get all stick and sometimes if roads are really bumpy it dribbles down the side of my bike. Not the end of the world, but annoying nonetheless. The Camelbak bottles seal nice - both the cap and the nozzle.
