about this item
Fifteen-year-old Dell Parsons is living in Montana with his twin sister and parents when his world is turned upside down. His father, Bev, a retired airman from Alabama, has always been a schemer, but now, one of his small-time cons has gone awry, and he finds himself deeply in debt to his partners in crime. Needing quick cash, he convinces his wife, the shy and artistic Neeva, to rob a bank with him. The couple is subsequently captured and thrown in jail, leaving their children to fend for themselves. While his sister runs off by herself, Dell is helped by a family friend, who drives him over the border to Saskatchewan before the child-welfare authorities can intervene. Once in Canada, the teen comes under the care of Arthur Remlinger, an enigmatic American fugitive with a violent streak. In these less-than-ideal circumstances Dell must try to make sense of his past and plan his future.
