Easy steps for great results, this is a treat perfect for gift giving.
To get the Marshmallows to melt, I had to return the pan to the heat and it got very difficult to stir! IF "Marshmallow Fluff" were used in place of Marshmallows, it would've been "much easier" to make! Once it was mixed and panned, it set quickly without chilling! One cool, it had a good fudge consistency, but had a "SemiSweet" taste! IF Milk Chocolate Chips were used, it would likely taste much better! Though rich and chocolaty, there's just so much of that "SemiSweet" taste, a person can take! IF those two substitutions were made, this kit would certainly make an excellent fudge!
I read through some of the other comments and like some of the others I did follow the directions to a T. When it came to mix the marshmallows and chips with the sugar mixture it seemed to seize and didn't mix well at all. I took it off the burner to do this and initially cooked the milk, butter and sugar exactly the way it said on the box. Now I've made this fudge with my own recipe and Carnation milk, marshmallows and chips and I've never had the mess I had with this mix. You need to get the Home Economist who developed this recipe to go over it again. I think you need to add the marshmallows separately to the hot sugar mixture and then melt the chips in after taking it off the burner. Anyway I'll never buy this product again. I can do better on my own.
I was very upset with the end result and won't be purchasing again. As an everyday cook and Baker there is always something getting whipped in my kitchen, served to family and friends and posted on my daily blog. So when I seen this box with all this box with ingredients I already enjoy using I thought this would be something delicious and quick to make the kids. However The end result, after precisely following the directions with all the constant stirring was a disaster that ended in the trash bin =( Be warned - Once you add the chocolate and marshmallow and start to stir, it becomes this odd sort of brittle, crumbly, non stirrable, not very smooth concoction... And I've been baking for over 20 yrs, so you may be able to understand why at this point I was not satisfied and very displeased (Thinking it was ruined completely and I just wasted my money) in a last effort to try to salvage it, I quickly melted 1 tablespoon of butter and added it to the mix along with ½ teaspoon of vanilla... But it didn't make the mix any better. I threw the whole thing out and because I had kids already waiting in anticipation I quickly made a batch of my tried and true Nestle Carnation recipe which turned out perfect as always
I followed the directions to a T on the box, after it started to boil and vigorously stiring for 4 mins, i removed from heat and immediatly put in the chips and marshmellows and began to stir again, and within 15 sec looked like it had all clumped together and was not even pourable. Not happy about this. Its now in the trash can as there is nothing i can do.
I've been making fudge from scratch for years. But, I saw this at the store and thought it would prevent me from having to walk around collecting the items. I made it and followed all the directions to be sure I didn't use some of my normal recipe and it came out crumbley. I don't think there's enough evaporated milk, as it was dry from the moment the chocolate and marshmello ws were added. It's too bad the idea was good, just poorly executed.
