About this item

The catalogue provides a detailed description of the Persian manuscripts preserved in the Oriental Collection of the Library of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the largest and most prestigious collection of its kind in Hungary. The library was founded in 1826 when Count József Teleki (1790-1855) gave his entire 30,000-volume library to the Learned Society, which became the Academy. It was not until 1949 that Lajos Ligeti (1902-87) collected the books and manuscripts written in Oriental languages or dealing with Oriental subjects into the Oriental Collection. The catalogue of 170 Persian manuscripts covers religion, history, biography, philosophy, medicine, astrology, arts and crafts, linguistics, and literature.
