about this item

This book collects 32 essays on the history of Central Eurasia in the Middle Ages; four of the essays are in Russian and 28 are in English. Some subjects explored include the history of the Khazar Khaqanate, Fynes Morison’s journeys, Muslim and infidel nomads in Timurid Central Asia, philosophy in the Turk lands, and leprosy and the plague in medieval Central Eurasia. While most essays deal with history and religion, there are several on language topics, such as medieval Russian terms for ‘armor,’ and phonological and morphological features of spoken Halich Karaim. The book includes a list of the publications of Peter B. Golden, who has contributed to the history of the Turkic speaking peoples and medieval history of Eastern Europe.
