Description

CeraVe Hydrating Mineral Face Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50 is a 100%-mineral, hydrating, oil-free face sunscreen with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide which are compliant for sale in Hawaii and Key West and form a protective barrier on your skin to help reflect UVA and UVB rays without irritating sensitive skin. Mineral face sunscreen has three essential ceramides to help restore the skin’s barrier and provide long-lasting hydration, as well as niacinamide to help calm skin. CeraVe hydrating sunscreen lotion is allergy tested, paraben-free, fragrance-free, oil-free, oxybenzone-free, octinoxate-free, non-comedogenic and suitable for sensitive skin.

Key Ingredients:
Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are 100% mineral sunscreen filters that form a protective layer on the skin to help reflect the sun’s rays
Ceramides help restore skin’s natural barrier and lock in moisture
Hyaluronic acid helps retain skin’s natural moisture
Niacinamide helps calm the skin

How to Use:
Apply CeraVe Sunscreen Face Lotion SPF 50 liberally 15 minutes before sun exposure
Reapply at least every 2 hours and immediately after towel drying
Use a water resistant sunscreen if swimming or sweating
Children under 6 months of age: ask a doctor

Application Tips:
Mineral-based UV filters form a protective barrier to help reflect UV rays away from the skin’s surface. Because the ingredients in a mineral sunscreen stay on the surface of the skin to help protect it, a white cast can sometimes remain after applying the product. Follow these tips to apply your mineral sunscreen:

Dispense a small amount to one palm and rub your hands together
Apply to one area of the body at a time and thoroughly massage into the skin
The formula should spread easily without leaving a greasy residue or feel
All sunscreens should be applied liberally for sun protection. It is essential to use any sunscreen product as directed.

Sun Protection Measures: Spending time in the sun increases your risk of skin cancer and early skin aging. To decrease this risk, regularly use a sunscreen with a broad spectrum SPF value of 15 or higher and other sun protection measures including:

Limit time in the sun, especially from 10 a.m-2 p.m
Wear long-sleeved shirts, pants, hats and sunglasses

Q: Titanium Dioxide has what function? See it is 6% in the SPF30 Face and 9% in the SFF50 Face. Thank you for explaining.

submitted by Nancy H - 3 years ago
  • A: Hi Nancy H! We appreciate your interest in our Hydrating Mineral Face Sunscreen Lotion. Titanium dioxide is a naturally occurring mineral that's used in a variety of products, including sunscreens. Because of its ability to help protect the skin from the widest spectrum of UV light, including both UVA and UVB rays, sunscreens with titanium dioxide are ideal for both daily and prolonged sun exposure. It is often used in combination with zinc oxide. Titanium dioxide works to reflect and scatter damaging UVA and UVB rays off the skin’s surface. This helps prevent sunburn and long-term sun damage. We hope this information helps!

Summary of reviews

This sunscreen offers high SPF protection and contains beneficial ingredients like ceramides and niacinamide, making it appealing for those seeking skin-friendly sun care. However, many guests report significant issues with a heavy white cast that is difficult to blend, leading to disappointment. While it may work for some skin tones, those with darker complexions may find it unsuitable. Overall, it is a mixed experience with potential for improvement in formulation.

The white cast on this sunscreen is INTENSE. If you’re a darker complexion, it’s going to have you looking like Casper! If you’re lighter complexion, you’re going to be looking sickly. Also gathers in wrinkles. Avoid. 😂

Thickest white cast ever and heavy scent. I’m pretty pale and it still left a ghostly shine over my skin. My poor nephew looked crazy during field day because we wanted to make sure he was protected but the cream refused to rub in or even fade with wear. Also if I was walking around outside and worked up a sweat in the middle of summer I would feel the cream come off with my sweat in to my eye! It causes a light stinging sensation.

This is the worst sunscreen ever. The white cast it leaves behind is insane. White face paint, to sum it all up. Straight to the trash.
1 reply from Cerave Product Expert team - 1 month ago
Hello Anne! We understand your frustration with the Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen and the significant white cast it left on your skin. Mineral sunscreens, which rely on ingredients like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, can sometimes leave a white cast, especially on deeper skin tones. We're continually working to improve our formulations to minimize this effect while maintaining the high level of sun protection these mineral ingredients offer. If you're looking for alternatives within the CeraVe range, you might consider their chemical sunscreen options, which typically absorb more readily into the skin and are less likely to leave a white cast. We hope you give another one of them a try!

Good sunscreen except it leaves an awful white cast. If you use it with lots of moisturizer, you can kind of get away with the white cast. You have to continue to rub until it goes away. The best mineral sunscreen so far I've tried with minimal white cast is the La Posay Anthelios mineral ULTRA LIGHT FLUID sunscreen SPF 50.
1 reply from Cerave Product Expert team - 1 month ago
Hello there! We appreciate your feedback on the Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen. While you find it to be a good sunscreen overall, the white cast is a significant drawback. The white cast is a common characteristic of mineral sunscreens, which use zinc oxide and titanium dioxide as active ingredients. These ingredients sit on top of the skin to provide a physical barrier against UV rays, and this can sometimes lead to a whitish appearance, especially on darker skin tones. Your tip about using it with plenty of moisturizer is helpful for mitigating the white cast. It's great you've found the La Roche-Posay Anthelios Mineral Ultra Light Fluid Sunscreen SPF 50 to be a better fit with minimal white cast. La Roche-Posay, another brand within the L'Oréal family, offers a diverse range of sunscreens with varying textures and formulations. If you're looking for other options with minimal white cast, exploring their chemical sunscreens might also be worthwhile. Chemical sunscreens typically absorb into the skin, reducing the likelihood of a visible white residue. Finding the right sunscreen is often a matter of personal preference and experimentation, and we're pleased you've found one that works well for you.

Hello there! We understand your disappointment with the white cast left by our CeraVe Hydrating 100% Mineral Sunscreen. Mineral sunscreens can sometimes present this challenge, and we appreciate your feedback. Application techniques can also make a difference. Try applying in thin layers, allowing each to absorb fully. Gently but thoroughly rubbing the sunscreen into your skin can also help. Some users even find that mixing a small amount of foundation or tinted moisturizer with the sunscreen helps it blend seamlessly. We appreciate you trying our product and encourage you to continue exploring resources to find the best sunscreen for your needs.

Hello Bri. CeraVe Hydrating Sunscreen is a 100% mineral filter sunscreen. Mineral sunscreens utilize titanium and/or zinc oxide particles to form a barrier that reflects the sun's rays away from the skin. Because the ingredients stay on the surface of your skin, a white cast can sometimes remain after applying the product. We suggest applying a small amount in the palm of your hands and rubbing them together. Then, apply to one small area at a time, rubbing well. Not grease. Absorbs well enough. Mineral sunscreens don't completely absorb because it's mineral based. This one absorbs better than most, but stays. Others melt with sweat. This one does melt off if swimming. For swimming and a lot of sweat, I use Neutrogena zinc. Neutrogena absorbs less but the purpose is different. Bot are awesome. The fragrance for CeraVe mineral is not offensive at all. Recommendation: apply before putting shirt off. Let it dry.

I’m a neutral skin color with a yellow undertone. This product blends perfectly with my skin. It’s moisturizing and protects my melasma (which I’m working on diminishing) well from the sun. One star taken away because the sunscreen leaves a gritty weird feeling on my hands I just have to wipe off, and because it’s a little greasy going on (but dries nicely). Worth trying given its price range and Cere ave’s general reputation!

Your face is white no matter how much you try and blend in. Your face looks like a ghost

Hi Gloworm. Thank you for reaching out to us. We are sorry to hear you did not enjoy your experience with our Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 Face Lotion. A white cast is caused by mineral sunscreens that sit on the surface of the skin, putting a physical barrier on the skin. We suggest applying a small amount in the palm of your hands and rubbing them together. Then, apply to one small area at a time, rubbing well. The formula should apply easily leaving a lightweight, non-greasy feel. Keep in mind, all sunscreens should be applied liberally for sun protection. We hope this was helpful!
