Q: Alcohol dent is the 6th ingredient. I have mature dry skin. Will the alcohol cause more dryness?

submitted by barb7569 - 6 months ago
  • A: Hi there! Thank you for your interest in the Skin Renewing Vitamin C Serum. Alcohol may be present in many categories of hair, cosmetic and hygiene products such as hair styling products, foundations, perfumes and deodorants. In cosmetics, alcohol is used for its high volatility (it disappears immediately after application), its drying, refreshing and antimicrobial properties. It facilitates the penetration of active ingredients into the superficial layers of the skin and promotes the deposit of ingredients on the skin or hair.

I recently tried the CeraVe Vitamin C Serum, and I must say it exceeded my expectations. As someone who is always on the lookout for effective skincare products, this serum has quickly become a staple in my routine. The texture is lightweight and slightly gel-like, which makes it easy to spread across the skin. It absorbs quickly, leaving no sticky residue, making it suitable for layering with other products in my routine. I appreciate that it doesn't leave my skin feeling greasy, which is a common concern with some serums. The star of the show is undoubtedly the 10% L- ascorbic acid. After using the serum consistently for a few weeks, I noticed brighter, more radiant skin. My skin tone appeared more even, and some fine lines looked less prominent. The serum also left my skin feeling hydrated, thanks to the inclusion of ceramides and hyaluronic acid. Overall, I highly recommend the CeraVe Vitamin C Serum to anyone looking to enhance their skincare routine. It's user-friendly, effective, and suitable for various skin types. With noticeable improvements in brightness and texture, this serum earns a solid five-star rating from me. If youre searching for a reliable vitamin C serum, look no further-this product is definitely worth a try!

Longtime user and I love this product! It has reduced my discoloration and brightens my skin in the morning. Couple things: use the correct amount, yes it will change color over time but it works the same (happens with lots of vitamin c products) love the updated cap. Much better!

I use this CereVe vitamin C serum instead of the CereVe retinol cream while pregnant or breastfeeding. My skin is looking brighter, and clearer from acne. I think it feels smoother too. I haven't had any poor reactions, or problems with pilling. Although, I usually put the serum on at night, on a clean face. Then I don't add more in the morning before applying a day cream, and makeup. I do also use a mineral powder makeup, and I'm sure that could help. I like it's texture. It's thin and a little goes a long way. It smells mildly sweet to me, (probably from the vitamin C) but I don't mind it a bit. I would love for it to cost less, but I think its a good value. I'll buy it again and recommend it to family!

I have been using vitamin c serums for several years and this is the absolute best one that I have tried. Others I have used are smelly, sticky, drying and irritating, but not this one! It is so silky and leaves the skin plump and hydrated with a beautiful glow that is not shiny. I’m on my second one and I look forward to using it every day, it has transformed my skin!

Just Ok-no noticeable difference

I got this product after my derm recommended incorporating vitamin C into my skincare routine. She gave me some sample of the LRP and suggested starting at a low % when I expressed irritation with previous use of vitamin C. My skin doesn’t do well with fragrance which the LRP has, so I found this. Things I like: the form of vitamin C used (ascorbic acid), the packaging, the absence of fragrance, no oxidation before finishing the bottle, the price. Things that were just average: the results after 1 bottle were not noticeable to me, my skin was drier and slight irritation came and went, feels like you need to use a lot of product to cover your face and neck. Overall, the product was just ok. Mainly because I saw no improvement in my skin.

The product itself is pretty good. It doesn't quite give me the glow that expensive vit C serums have, but it does seem to fade discoloration. The main reason I use it is that, at this price point, I can also slather it on my hands, arms, and neck with abandon. My main complaint is that the new plastic packaging is not an improvement over the aluminum tube. That package had a long skinny tip that was prone to breaking, but it must have protected the product better because the serum stayed white until the last drops. You just had to take care not to drop the tube or bend off the tip by accident. With this new packaging, it's not as fragile, but the serum started to turn amber almost immediately, then to orange about halfway through. And I use the product liberally every day, so it's not like it sat around. If my next tube has the same issues I'll consider switching to a different brand.

. It comes in aluminum tube which is difficult to handle , but i guess aluminum tube is suitable for ingredients it have . This serum Is easily spreadable , fine , slight less viscous and non fragrant . It does not provide all day hydration for dry skin like mine . This serum put definitely impact on my dark spots and uneven skin tone. It is pricey a bit , but lasts longer . This is working well for my hyperpigmentation so i will definitely recommend this to my friends and family . Thank you

Pilling

This product is in theory great. The ingredients are good and it's air tight for freshness. The only big issue is this product contains a lot of dimethicone which is a type of silicone used in a lot of skincare. Because of this the product will not dry down and fully absorb. The second you apply your sunscreen on top everything on your face will start pilling. If you apply any type of makeup on top it will all pill off. I wish they made a version that is more user friendly without dimethicone.
1 reply from Cerave Product Expert team - 1 month ago
Hello Dizzydiva! Thank you for sharing some personal feedback with us on our Skin Renewing Vitamin C Serum! We are sorry to hear you are having a hard time getting the product to absorb into the skin. We recommend allowing the first product you apply in your skincare routine to fully dry and absorb into skin until it feels dry to the touch before layering on the next product. In addition, try applying a small amount in the palm of your hands and rubbing them together. Then, apply to one small area at a time, rubbing well. The formula should apply easily leaving a lightweight, non-greasy feel. We hope these tips are helpful and you give it another try!

I've been using the cerave hydrating cleanser and moisturizer cream and was happy with the results. I wanted to add vitamin c to my skin care routine so I tried the vitamin c serum. I applied in the am and when I was washing my face that evening, I noticed a lot of red dots all over my face especially my forehead. Am I allergic to this? Please let me know if I should stop using it or is this part of the process .

I’ve had good results from other CeraVe products so had high hopes for this. But a few days after I started using it I caught sight of myself in the mirror at work and realized my face was a pale orange color with an obvious demarcation at the hairline. That evening I used a moistened cotton pad to wipe down my face before washing and it turned orange as I wiped. I still want to use a vitamin C product. But not one that makes me look like I’m wearing a poorly matched foundation, so I’ll be looking for another.

I love the results, but the pilling issue is something I don't know how to resolve. It's fine on its own, but as one would expect, using it in the morning means I'm pairing it with the facial moisturizing lotion. It turns into a mess. Not sure how to resolve this problem since I love both products.

Hello there! Thank you for reaching out about our Skin Renewing Vitamin C Serum. The general rule of thumb to layering skincare products is to go from the thinnest consistency to the thickest. That way, your formulas will absorb more efficiently. However, keep in mind that you should always apply sunscreen last to get the best sun protection, even if it is thinner than your moisturizer. We hope you find this information helpful!

I like the product, it feels like it is working (only been 2 weeks) but it does not full absorb in my skin. My skin feels greasy and it pills. I do not see how I could add makeup over this and moisturizer only makes it worse. Any suggestions on how to make it absorb and not pill would be great. Or if there is a way to change the formula so it sinks in without pilling.

The product started to smell metallic after a few days of use. I unscrewed the lid and found rust all around the tip of the tube. The package claims it is designed to keep the product from oxidizing but obviously that failed. I don’t recommend this product until they fix the packaging. I can’t say if it works because I was only able to use it for a few days.

Wanted to love this but it pills up so badly - I’ve given it a couple tries & today was the last straw. I applied this, then lotion & gave them both time to sink in… then I applied sunscreen & it all balled up into white bits all over my face as I worked the sunscreen into my skin. I’ve used this lotion & sunscreen combo for eons with zero issue so it’s definitely the CeraVe. I should’ve known as anything in a translucent glossy liquid tends to pill on my skin- it just lays on top like a gel instead of absorbing like a lotion. Tossed the box so I can’t take it back. What a waste!

I don’t see anything on the website explaining a switch from recyclable to plastic packaging. It’s disappointing. Searching for a new product.
