About this item
When University of Minnesota football coach Jerry Kill stepped down due to health concerns in October 2015, he said, I can’t do what I love doing anymore.” What Kill loved doing, and did remarkably well in 20-plus seasons on the sideline, was turn around college football programs. In the four years before Kill arrived in Minnesota, the Gophers averaged only four wins. They won six in his second year and eight in his third and fourth. Kill worked similar magic in earlier stints at Northern Illinois and Southern Illinois. Along the way, Kill also fought through health challenges, including kidney cancer in the mid-2000s and a number of seizures which led to gameday hospitalizations while at Minnesota. In Chasing Dreams: Living My Life One Yard at a Time, Coach Kill teams with author Jim Bruton and shares for the first time his inspirational, thought-provoking, and heartwarming story from his early years playing for and working under Dennis Franchione to guiding the Gophers to a New Year’s Day bowl game and being named Big Ten Coach of the Year. Kill describes his dedication to his players, how he drove them, taught them, counseled them, and made them into men first and then disciplined and inspired football players who he will love for a lifetime. Readers will also learn about Kill’s work to bring awareness to cancer and epilepsy and his never-ending commitment to bringing the state of Minnesota together to believe in his mission.
