Q: How does the timer work? How long is it on for? Does it turn on and off by itself?

A: The timer function allows the lights to be on for 6 hours and off for 18 hours. This cycle repeats at the time you first turned the lights on until the batteries are discharged. A: The indication for TIMER / OFF / ON is on the long side of the battery box near the location of the switch. The TIMER position is the one closest to the center of the battery box. I bought 2 of these lights to put on my small Christmas tree. They are very bright. It uses 2 aa batteries. I used rechargeable batteries and it lasted 4 days of continued use. Very good for the price and loves the fact that it has a timer that goes on for 8 hrs.

I am having same problem with the timer. The on/off does not designate on or timer. Off is in the middle.. I have turned on in both directions and the lights never go off. My directions said to move twice. Either direction is always on. I like them, but would like to have the timer option.
