I've been using Clairol Root Touch-Up (4-Dark Brown) for years with great results between salon visits. Now all of a sudden I've gotten my second box in a few months and second bad result. I thought that perhaps the first bad result was because I didn't leave it on long enough (15 mins) and it came out light brown. But this latest result I left on for 20 minutes and got the same weird light brown. Has the formulation changed or something? Also this particular box had a color tube (marked as a #1) that began as one (golden brown) color when I was squeezing it out and then became a granular blue/black color. I'm really wondering if I should try this product again. I really have relied on it between salon visits! Very unhappy!
I've used this product years ago, no problem. I purchased dark brown and as I was applying, I noticed a bluish hue. The tube had the number one on it which I later googled and it said blue black. Immediately rinsed hair shampooing multiple times. No real damage. The box clearly says dark brown and was sealed and unopened.

We're sorry to hear that Black was in your Root Touch-Up, Patti. We'd be more than happy to assist you further with this, please give us a call at 1-800-252-4765 or email us through our Contact Us page to do so.
I’ve been using this for about 10 years now and love how well the color lasts. I use the black shade and it always comes out great. But the applicator handle is horrible, it’s always slipping out of my hand. I wish you would go back to the previous version, was much easier to grasp.
This is the second time I have used this product, only been dyeing my hair last 3 years, because I wanted “ to go grey gracefully “ as I didn’t have time to care for my roots. Normally I use cover sprays - until it gets too bad, and I still don’t have time to go to the salon, so resort to this. This time went blonde and was little concerned , shouldn’t have been. Delighted with results, especially as going on holiday tomorrow ,so no chance to dash to salon!
This is the second bad batch of #4 Dark Ash Brown Root Touch Up I have bought where the color never activated. It stayed a cream color. So frustrated that a product I’ve used for years had become unreliable. A quick online search indicates that users are noticing quality control issues for the product. Guess I’ll have to find a new brand.

We're sorry the color of 4A/Dark Ash Brown in our permanent Root Touch-Up was alarming. The formula changed for a few shades, and 4A was one of them. It is supposed to be light like that, actually. It will darken slowly, and it will still work on your hair. We're sorry for any confusion, but please know that the product is still good. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to give us a call at 1-800-252-4765 and we'd be more than happy to help you out.
