A: As long as you don't mix them. Pour an equal amount of both into the mixing tray, and apply. Any mixed leftover should be tossed. Cap the unmixed tubes and use at a later date. I get multiple uses out of one box.

Q: Did they change the formula? I don't remember the box saying lasts only 3 weeks, as if it washes out or something. I've used it for years, and it has always gradually faded in at least 2-3 months, never washing out.

Q: I am currently using Dark Brown #4 However, I had a perm and it lightened my color, would it make sense to go with the Dark Brown/Blk the next time. I don't want black hair, I just want a rich dark brown.

Q: Should I leave a certain amount of time between using the root touch up and going back to the salon?

A: If you are looking to go back to the salon. I would recommend your salon know what products you used. The ingredient list might be helpful as well so that they have an idea of how the product will react with Clairol Root Touch up. The best store-bought to use when you know you will be returning to the salon soon after is a Demi-Permanent such as Clairol Natural instincts. This will wash out over time. Please note that a Demi- Perm will not cover your greys. If that is your intention I would recommend keeping the root touch up.

A: It might be hard to lighten after the hair has been treated. It could fade slightly over time.

Clairol root touch up 3 developed orange! But it worked! The numbers on tube and boxed matched so it was not tampered with. It completely covers grey hair. I usually get number 4 espresso but Target did not have it in stock. I was afraid to use it since it turned orange but it eventually turned brown/black.

Skip the salon and DIY if you have to get your roots done. Saves $ plus It covers grays pretty well and lasts at least 2.5 weeks. I buy a box for my mother once a month and recommend her using a shade or two darker than her entire hair color to effectively cover the gray strands.

This is my second purchase as I like how easy and less mess this is to apply for root touch up. I tried another brand for root touchup which connects the bottle directly to the brush, but it was messier for me I think and this as a separate brush was easier to handle. On the plus side I can actually use it twice per box, as we mix the colour creme separately on a plastic bowl included at the amount, so for my head I save enough for a second round. In terms of lastingness, it is the same with any other over the counter touch ups I have tried, good for a month in covering some gray strands.
