Adaramola looks at the impact of renewable resources on climate change from various of viewpoints, noting that today’s models may not be able to keep up with the continually changing climate. Thirteen chapters are divided into five parts: wind energy and climate change; solar energy and climate change; hydropower and climate change; geothermal energy and climate change; efficiency and feasibility of renewable energies. Chapter 1 looks at the centennial trends in the surface wind speed over North America from global climate model simulations. Chapter 2 examines the intermittency of wind power on daily, month, and longer time scales as computed in their simulations and inferred from their meteorological observations. Chapter 3 quantifies the extent to which changes in atmospheric processes affect the downward solar radiation at the surface as directly calculated by their climate models. Chapter 4 examines the relative contributions of temperature and irradiance. Chapter 5 evaluates the changes in global hydropower generation resulting from predicted changes in climate. Chapter 6 looks at the impact of climate change on water availability, and water temperature on electricity production and prices. Chapter 7 calculates the hydroelectric power generation on a high temporal resolution of one hour for single hydropower plants within a large scale catchment. Chapter 8 presents global statistical data on the current status of deep geothermal resource utilization for electricity generation. Chapter 9 describes the development of a model in order to simulate an air conditioning system with geothermal heat pump. Chapter 10 compares sewer waste heat recovery with heat pumps using geothermal energy storage systems. Chapter 11 proposes a new technique to directly adopt the wind force to drive heat pump systems. Chapter 12 focuses on the capability of renewable wind and solar energy in generating power for offshore application.
