Warm, clean, comfortable sleeping bag

I liked the green color of this sleeping bag, on first sight. I got it in 2019, and I loved the warmth of the snug hood area, the thickness, and the fact that it is shiny, clean material inside and out. I was tired of leaves and dirt sticking to the flannel interior of my old bag. With this one, any remnants of nature walks can be easily shaken out. it served me well, but the zipper has now failed. So has the one on my 39 degree bag. I use it every other weekend, at least, and continuously; through long trips. Sometimes, I even swap it for my bedding in a drafty old farmhouse or pull it out for guests. Just don't try to substitute it for a Summer bag, in a pinch. It's unbearable which, to me, means it's the real deal for Minnesota. My only wish is that it longer. I will definitely be ordering another.

the realm of temp ratings

This is a good bag, especially at the price. As many campers know, gear companys typically don't label cold weather bags by comfort level but by survival rating. ie: at how low a temp will you not freeze to death. Here, it looks like Coleman has addressed this issue in specs by stating the 'bag keeps you comfortable at 15f', and the bag is actually branded as the "Sleeping Bag Big Basin Hybrid 15". I'm guessing this level of warmth would mirror the performance of other low cost 0 degree rated bags (and, as well, product detsils when I read them were 'rated 0 to 15). Anyone planning to camp in zero degree conditions probably knows to be prepared. With any camping gear, likely a bag liner, good camping pad, synthetic quilt, and tent would be brought along if one is really headed for 0 degree Fahrenheit. Thank you Target dot com for offering this bag.

I've had this out several times no and I'm a tall and portly guy. Plenty of room for this side sleeper who rolls from side to another during the night. Plenty warm even on a cold night. We recently went up to the mountains and it was 15 degrees. No worries about stay warm in my skivvies in the bag.

Awesome Bag for Big People!

After years of competitive bodybuilding and powerlifting, I have grown to a larger than "normal" size. I'm 6'3" ~250 lbs and I usually don't fit into regular ANYTHING. Sleeping bags were no different. I had a mummy bag but, I could barely get it zipped up. When I did, it was crazy tight. It's not fun to sleep in a straight jacket. Anyhow, my wife saved me when she got me the Big Basin as a Christmas gift this year. Holy moly!! I love this thing. Amazingly roomy! So comfy!! I camp in my back yard with my kids every Friday night. The past Friday was only 21 degrees...and I was completely fine in my bag! People gripe about the size...but...how else are you going to get something nice and roomy for a big framed person?! I would have no problems hiking with this thing. Yes...I would need one of those hardcore giant backpacks to go hiking...but, it would be worth it to have my awesome sleeping bag! This bag RULES!! I can't really judge the durability as of right now...I have had it for less than a month! Maybe I will come back here for an update after a few years. But, it seems really solid and I love this sleeping bag.

Did I receive the correct item?

1 out of 5 stars

I received a 15 degree Big Basin. It also says Coleman comfort ranges 0-20 degrees. I just feel the description on here should say Coleman big basin 15 because that is what I received. Colemans website calls it Big Basin™ 15 Big & Tall Sleeping Bag. Target should probably updated their misleading description. Not really thrilled because I feel like I didn't get the item as it was described

I'm 6', 250 pounds and I got this bag because i need extra room for general back yard sleep-out nights. My other bags are closer fitting with no extra room and causes the bag to roll when I do and that necessitates me to be conscious to correct the position. Also, with the kids in the back yard the bag is roomy enough to to keep two PomChis warm inside and still permit me a decent nights' sleep. The bag's construction seems solid and strong, but I question the long term performance of the zipper plow- hopefully it won't become brittle and crack causing snags. The material is very comfortable and the layout is well planned. I am not sure about the colder temperature ratings or water resistancy, but due to the bag's size it I think it would make an excellent second layer, protector, or bivy for another bag.

Just received from FedEx. Came in a few days, i am 6ft1 240 lbs and i fit very well in this bag. Haven't used it yet but the quality seems to be top knotch. I have never used "high end" expensive equipment. For a 42 dollar sleeping bag im happy. Also ive read reviews about not being able to fit it in the supplied storage bag. I was able to do so the first time. Its not anymore difficult than puting a tent away.

My perfect bag!

I’ve had my Big Basin since about 2012-ish. I’ve camped with it tent camping in the snow in Yellowstone and the Tetons, cool spring weather in the Carolinas, and cold winter desert nights in Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona. I also use it in our little pop up off road camper. It’s safe to say it’s served me well! I love all the extra room in it to turn over and wiggle at night. If you are a small person and a cold sleeper, you probably want to have a smaller bag to retain your heat closer to your body. I’m a bigger person and also a hot sleeper so I usually have a light blanket stuffed down in my sack so that I can use it to wrap up for extra insulation on super cold nights or to unzip my bag and use it as a lighter cover on warmer nights. I love the hybrid design with the extra room yet having the mummy style head allows me to put my pillows in the hood so they stay put and I can cinch everything up to stay warm when it’s Uber cold. This has been my favorite sleeping bag I’ve ever had even over many other more expensive name brands that I’ve had. I’ll probably be purchasing another one for my boyfriend as a gift because he’s always so jealous of my versatile, warm, and cozy bag every time we go camping!

Feels great to the hand and very comfy inside. The addition of more insulation would make this a top notch cold weather bag. Make sure to separate the layers and loft by hand after removing from the stuff sack in order to get the most out of this bag.

I bought my Big Basin about 3 years ago and am very satisfied with it. It's perfect for very cold conditions and I love how much room there is.
